Molecular Beam Epitaxial Growth Of Gasb And Insb Nanostructures On (001) Ge Substrates, Zon -
Molecular Beam Epitaxial Growth Of Gasb And Insb Nanostructures On (001) Ge Substrates, Zon -
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The self-assembled GaSb and InSb nanostructures (quantum dots, QDs) are grown on (001) Ge substrates in Stranski-Krastanow growth mode by molecular beam epitaxy. The structural properties are characterized by ex situ atomic force microscopy (AFM), and the related optical properties are observed by photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Growing of polar GaAs on non-polar Ge creates anti-phase domains (APDs). By careful controlling of growth, APDs surface becomes flat and having large surface area (~µm2) which is sufficient to form QD array in each domain. The effects of APDs on the formation of QDs are discussed. By varying the growth conditions, different QD …

"White Men's Burdens?": A Study Of Joseph Conrad's Lord Jim, George Orwell's Burmese Days, And Graham Greene's The Quiet American As Reflections Of Three Phases Of Western Colonialism In Southeast Asia, Navarach Khamsuwan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Through the three chosen British novels, Western colonialism in Southeast Asia can be seen in three major phases: colonialism at its peak, colonialism during its decline and colonialism at its transformation. This thesis propounds that the roles and statuses of the white male characters (Jim, John Flory, Thomas Fowler and Alden Pyle) are established through their interactions with other characters, most of whom are women. The roles and statuses of these Western protagonists and their interactions with the people residing in the region of Southeast Asia can be seen to reflect three phases of Western colonialism. In Lord Jim (1899-1900), …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The growth in the adoption of solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems has been accelerating around the world, contributing to the debate about the future of policy and regulation in a high distributed energy resources future. Thailand is one of the leaders in solar investment in Southeast Asia. It has recently shifted its policy framework from subsidizing power export through feed-in tariffs toward a policy that is focused on supporting self-consumption of PV electricity. There are three possible forms of self-consumption support scheme: net metering, net billing, and self-consumption only. Net metering and net billing are electricity policies to assign …

Roles Of Dissimilatory Nitrate Reduction To Ammonium In Biological Nitrogen Removal System, Pokchat Chutivisut
Roles Of Dissimilatory Nitrate Reduction To Ammonium In Biological Nitrogen Removal System, Pokchat Chutivisut
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Biological nitrogen removal system is a wastewater treatment process that normally utilizes nitrification-denitrification to convert nitrogen wastes to unharmful gaseous products. However, apart from these two pathways, dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA) can also compete with denitrification for nitrate and yield ammonium waste as the end product. The aim of this research is to extend knowledge on the DNRA pathway, including the study on its occurrence and microorganisms responsible for the process. To observe the presence of DNRA, microbial sludge from aquacultures which utilized biological nitrogen removal processes was applied to examine the pathway of DNRA in these systems. …

Political Connection And Firm Performance: Evidence From Chinese State-Owned Companies, Chenyu Fang
Political Connection And Firm Performance: Evidence From Chinese State-Owned Companies, Chenyu Fang
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This paper uses the multiple regression to research the political connection effect in the state-owned enterprise. It has been found that the political connection can significantly enhance state-owned enterprises' performance. Moreover, the same administration level between state-owned enterprises' actual controller and CEO/Chairman would enhance ROA and ROE. Additionally, as the proportion of political connection members increases, the ROA will be promoted. The political connection has same impact on the industries with more governmental control and the industries with less governmental control. The "city administration level" shows negative record in the stock market. Furthermore, this paper adopts the Probit Model to …

Doctoral Music Performance: Technique And Evolution Of Modern Guitar Performance, Apichai Chantanakajornfung
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
It was around the mid-nineteenth century that the guitar almost sank into oblivion due to the rising popularity of the piano. Fortunately, the art of guitar performance was still cultivated by certain figures residing mostly in Spain. One of them was the so-called 'father of modern guitar' - Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909), a guitarist who devoted all his life to bring back the legend and prestige of the instrument. Another figure who gave a great contribution to the history of the instrument was Andrés Segovia (1893-1987). Because of these ardent efforts of the past, the current guitar scene is very profound …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Due to their health benefits including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and also antimicrobial activities, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) has received much attention in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries. Nanoemulsions (NEs) solubilize and increase absorption and bioavailability of lipophilic substances (i.e. olive oil). However, there is insufficient data in the formation of olive oil NEs. This study aimed to investigate the formation of oil-in-water NEs containing EVOO using low-energy approach and high-energy approach. NEs were characterized for size, polydispersity and zeta potential after storage at different conditions for up to 180 days. They were determined for antimicrobial susceptibility. From the result, NEs …
