Topic-Comment Sentence Structure In Written English, Hongmei Wu
Topic-Comment Sentence Structure In Written English, Hongmei Wu
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study investigates the topic-comment sentence structure in written English. It finds that English makes use of both the subject-predicate structure syntactically and the topic-comment structure pragmatically. The results of this study challenge the typological claim that English sentence structures are subject-prominent which mainly follows the subject-predicate structure (Li & Thompson, 1976). Via the investigation, this study proposes that English sentence structures exhibit the properties of subject-prominent and topic-prominent languages. As is believed that the topic-comment structure in English is represented differently from that in the topic-prominent languages, this study investigates the constructions in English writing to explore the appearances …

Microshear Bond Strength And Microleakage Of Glass Ionomer Cement On Aged Dentin, Chutima Techa-Ungkul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Objective: To compare the microshear bond strength and microleakage of glass ionomer cements when bonded to aged and young dentin. Background: Root caries commonly occurs in elderly patients. Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is frequently used to restore root caries. Many studies of GIC have been conducted using young dentin, however few studies have assessed adhesion and microleakage of GICs to aged dentin. Materials and methods: Seventy-eight non-carious human molars (patient age 16-30 = 39; patient age ≥ 65 = 39) were tested with three commercial GICs (Fuji II LC, Equia Forte Fil, and Fuji BULK). For microshear bond strength (µSBS), …

Thus, community resilience should not be taken as an end-goal, yet an iterative process for such to absorb, adapt and ultimately transform in the face of and after change. This research aims to offer a unique insight into how these …

A Comparison Of Emotion Regulation Strategies’ Effectiveness Under Cognitive Fatigue, Sirinapa Churassamee
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This research compared the effectiveness of three emotion regulation strategies including reappraisal, distraction, and affect labeling under cognitive fatigue. In the 2 (fatigue vs. non-fatigue) × 3 (emotion regulation strategies) within-subject design, 46 participants were randomly assigned into conditions using an incomplete block design method. Self-report negative emotions and skin conductance responses to emotion-eliciting pictures were measured to compare the effectiveness of the strategies. Results showed that reappraisal was more effective in regulating negative emotions than distraction and affect labeling in both fatigue and non-fatigue conditions. While reappraisal was a robust method of regulating emotion, the other two less-demanding strategies …
