Enhancing H2s Sensing Response Of Calcium Copper Titanate Thin Films By Adding Ag Compounds, Aukrit Natkaeo
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Ag-doped CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) thin films with different doping concentrations were prepared by a sol-gel technique. Films were grown by depositing four layers of CCTO on alumina substrates followed by sputtering Au/Cr interdigitated electrodes to fabricate gas sensors. The films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS). The films have predominantly the perovskite CCTO crystal phase with very small amount of TiO2 secondary phases. In this thesis, both undoped CCTO and Ag-doped CCTO thin films were tested for selective sensing to H2S gas relative …

Optimum Patch Design For Repairing Cracked Steel Plates Using Genetic Algorithm, Bach Kim Do
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This research presents a design optimization process that combines the finite element (FE) method, genetic programming (GP), and optimization solvers, i.e., genetic algorithm (GA) and nonlinear programming, for double-sided fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) patches used to repair center-cracked steel plates under tension fatigue. An optimization statement is to minimize the patch volume and reduce the stress intensity factor (SIF) range at crack tips below the fatigue threshold range. A detailed three-dimensional (3D) FE model of patch-repaired cracked plates is developed to compute SIF. A total of 864 FE models of patch-repaired cracked plates with different combinations of design parameters are then …

In Silico Screening Of Chalcones Against Epstein-Barr Nuclear Antigen 1 Protein In Epstein-Barr Virus (Ebv), Nitchakan Darai
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Epstein-Barr Nuclear Antigen 1 (EBNA1), a crucial protein encoded by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), plays an important role in the replication and transcriptional regulator of EBV virus latent gene expression. Therefore, it is associated with several diseases especially human malignancies. The previous studies have demonstrated that chalcone derivatives can potentially inhibit the EBV virus. In this study, a series of designed chalcones were in silico screened toward EBNA1 using molecular docking. The docking results show that the interaction energies of 3a, 3b, 3d, 4g and 4h are better than those of the known anti-EBV agents, 1335528, 2122620 and 4-hydroxyderricin. The …

Chromatographic Separation Of Free Lutein And Fatty Acids In De-Esterified Marigold Oleoresin And Its Mathematical Modelling, Weerawat Clowutimon
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The petal of marigold flowers has been reported to be the richest source of a xanthophyll, namely lutein which exhibits strong antioxidant and anticancer properties. Although large amount of lutein can be obtained, the compound in the flowers exists as esterified lutein, which is not readily bio-available. As a result, a number of separation and purification steps are required after solvent extraction of marigold flowers. One of the key steps is de-esterification of lutein fatty acid esters in the extract, or namely marigold oleoresin, by the reaction of the oleoresin with alkali solution, e.g., KOH, to obtain free lutein. The …

Semiconductor nanoparticles or quantum dots (QDs), especially CdSe/ZnS QDs, are of great interest in bioapplications due to their unique size-dependent optical properties and photo-stability. One of the plausible applications of QDs is DNA detection using QDs as a novel fluorescence tool for sensing of DNA using the electrostatic interaction between negative charge of DNA and positive charge on QDs surface. In this work, CdSe/ZnS QDs were synthesized using a hot-solution decomposition process resulting in hydrophobic CdSe/ZnS QDs. To obtain water-soluble and cationic QDs, the surface of QDs were modified with poly(ethylene)imine (PEI) via micelle formation. Because of hydrophilicity of PEI …

Enantiomeric Separation Of Alcohols By Gas Chromatography And Qspr Study To Predict Enantiomeric Separation, Kittiyakorn Toboonpha
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Enantiomeric separation of 55 alcohols (13 aliphatic alcohols and 42 alcohols of aromatic structure) was studied by gas chromatography using octakis(2,3-di-O-acetyl-6-O-tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-γ-CD (or GSiAc) as a chiral stationary phase. For separation under temperature program, 44 alcohols could be enantioseparated. The only aliphatic alcohol that could be completely separated into their enantiomers was 2-hexanol. Twenty-five alcohols, based on 1-phenylethanol, were selected to study under isothermal conditions. For halogen-substituted 1-phenylethanols, temperature strongly affected enantioselectivities of para-substituted alcohols. However, temperature affected enantioselectivities of methyl- or trifluoromethyl-substituted alcohols at ortho-position more than other positions. For para-substituted alcohols, enantioseparations could be improved with the substituent in …

Selective Esterification Of Glycerol With Oleic Acid Using Tungstophosphoric Acid Supported On Functionalized Mesoporous Silica, Kullatida Ratchadapiban
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
A series of protonated amine-functionalized SBA-15 materials was successfully prepared. Each sample of mesoporous SBA-15 was first functionalized with each of the three types of amino-organosilanes: APTES (N), AAPTMS (NN), and DETTMS (NNN). Each of the resulting materials was then protonated with Keggin-type tungstophosphoric acid (HPW) at two different concentrations: 20 wt.% (H20) and 40 wt.% (H40). The six types of materials obtained were labelled as S-N1-H20, S-N1-H40, S-NN1-H20, S-NN1-H40, S-NNN1-H20, and S-NNN1-H40. The materials were fully characterized by XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption, FT-IR, SEM/EDX, TEM, and elemental analysis. The characterization results show that the synthesized materials exhibited highly ordered hexagonal …

Adsorption Of Paraquat Herbicide In Water Using Humic Acids Supported On Sludge From Tap Water Production Entrapped In Alginate Beads, Munlika Suksai
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Adsorption of paraquat in water using humic acids supported on sludge from tap water production or alum sludge entrapped in alginate beads has been studied. The adsorbent was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showing that it composes of humic acids, alum sludge and alginate in beads. Afterwards, the type and amount of adsorbents were studied including bare alginate beads, humic acids-alginate beads, alum sludge-alginate beads, alum sludge-humic acids-alginate beads-1 and alum sludge-humic acids-alginate beads-2. These adsorbents were subjected to the paraquat adsorption study in aqueous solutions. The results showed that all adsorbents can adsorb paraquat, especially the alum sludge-humic …
