Background: Oestrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer patients have a good prognosis, but 30% of these developed resistance through hyperactivation of PI3K/AKT, ERK1/2, and NFκB, which interconnected with ER signalling. In this study, the effects of 1’ acetoxychavicol acetate (ACA), a plant-metabolite acetate ester compound with an NF-kB inhibitory activity, were investigated in a panel of endocrine-resistant breast cancer cells. Methods: Plant material was purified by chromatographic methods and followed by structural identification using nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectroscopy. Angiogenesis plays important role in tissue regeneration. Biomaterials that allow and promote angiogenesis are thus beneficial. Silk fibroin (SF) scaffolds are good candidates for angiogenesis activation because of the biodegradability, biocompatibility, and interaction of extracellular matrices. Human adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) are also promising for tissue regeneration. This study thus aims to investigate the angiogenic potential of SF scaffolds with/without ADSCs on chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM). In the search of antioxidant and antibacterial agents, the extracts and isolated compounds from lichen Parmotrema dilatatum, Knema angustifolia full name, Persicaria odorata and Mansonia gagei. were examined. Nine compounds were isolated from lichen P. dilatatum including (E)-2,4-dihydroxy-6-methyl-3-(3-oxobut-1-en-1-yl)benzoate (PD.1), hopane-16ß,22-diol (PD.2), methyl orsellinate (PD.3), methyl haemmatomate (PD.4), methyl ß-orcinolcarboxylate (PD.5), 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-3,6-dimethylbenzoic acid (PD.6), atranol (PD.7), atranorin (PD.8) and lecanorin (PD.9). The dichloromethane and acetone fractions, and atranol (PD.7) gave excellent activities as antioxidants. This research aimed to study effects of poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) contents on properties of polylactic acid / poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate) / poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PLA/PHBV/PBAT) blends to be used as a packaging for solar-dried bananas. The blend of PLA and PHBV (PLA/PHBV) was fixed at weight ratio of 80/20 while the PBAT content was varied from 0-30 wt%. The films were prepared by melt compounding and blown film extrusion. It was found that the addition of PBAT decreased barrier properties of PLA/PHBV film. The interactions between green tea phenolic compounds, including (−)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and (−)-epigallocatechin (EGC), and various amine groups functionalized on carbon nanotube (CNT) were studied by all-atom molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The amine functional groups: ethylenediamine (EDA), triethylenetetramine (TETA), and melamine (MA) were considered in this study. Simulated results showed that amine molecular structure grafted on CNT surface affected diffusion and adsorption of EGCG and EGC. The EDA-functionalized CNT (EDA/CNT) provided a strong adsorption affinity to EGCG and EGC with their bicyclic segments located within the EDA layer. The optode containing 25,27-di(benzothiazolyl)-26,28-hydroxycalix[4]arene (CU1) as an ion-selective ionophore, chromoionophore XIV as a lipophilic pH indicator, and KTpClPB as an ion-exchanger was prepared and used as a sensing agent in the proposed devices. Aiming to discover novel bioactive secondary metabolites from genus Garcinia, we performed phytochemical and biological investigations of three Garcinia species collected from Indonesia. A series of chromatographic techniques and spectroscopic data analysis were used to isolate and characterize the Garcinia phytochemicals. The cytotoxicity of the isolated compounds was evaluated against five human cancer cell lines (HeLa S3, Hep G2, HT-29, MCF-7, and KB) using MTT assay. Pyrrolidinyl peptide nucleic acid (acpcPNA) was covalently modified onto the patterned cellulose paper to act as a specific probe for capturing the HCV DNA target according to Watson−Crick base-paring rules. Globba schomburgkii Hook.f. rhizomes were extracted with dichloromethane and fractionated using column chromatography to obtain 10 fractions (FA-FJ). The most active fractions, FE and FG, were further fractionated to give seven and thirteen sub-fractions, respectively. The fractions and sub-fractions were tested for antibacterial activity using 96-well plate microdilution method. The antibacterial activity of several sub-fractions (such as FE.B, FE.C, FE.D, FG.D, FG.G, and FG.H) were higher than that of the crude extract. New thread-based and paper-based devices for the determination of nitrite ions based on modified Griess reagent were developed. The surface of the materials was chemically modified with p-aminobenzoyl moiety and chromotropic acid was used as a coupling reagent. The functionalization of the materials was confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. By using the thread-based device, the detection of nitrite was achieved by measuring the color band length. This dissertation reports three projects dedicated to anion recognition with applications in fluoride and cyanide sensing. Dextrin-stabilized gold nanoparticles (d-AuNPs) was employed as a colorimetric reagent. The aggregation of d-AuNPs can be induced by positively charged acpcPNA generating a distinctive color change. World’s population of older people is rising, dietary supplements promoting healthy lifespan are needed. Moreover, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), an age-related degenerative disease, becomes a public health problem in aging society. Recent reports using cell culture models of AD suggest that amyloid precursor protein (APP), a protein causally related to AD, plays an important role as an inhibitor of neurite outgrowth. Medicinal herbs with neurite outgrowth stimulatory effect may help to prevent and cure AD. Despite the popularity of nicotine gum in Thailand, population pharmacokinetics of nicotine gum in Thai population has not been investigated yet. This study aimed to develop a population pharmacokinetic model to quantify the effects of genetic and nongenetic factors to nicotine pharmacokinetics after administration of nicotine gum to adult Thai smokers. A population pharmacokinetic analysis was performed using secondary data collected from a previous clinical trial assessing cytochrome P450 2A6 (CYP2A6) genotypes in Thai smokers. Background: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) accounts for the majority of diagnoses of thyroid carcinoma. BRAFV600E mutation is the most common genetic alteration in PTC, which has diagnostic and prognostic significance. The rate of BRAFV600E mutation in PTC from Thailand has not been reported. ภูมิหลัง ผู้ป่วยเบาหวานมีโอกาสที่จะเกิดโรคไซนัสอักสบจากเชื้อราชนิดรุกรานได้ง่ายกว่าผู้ป่วยปกติ ซึ่งอัตราการเสียชีวิตจากโรคนี้ในผู้ป่วยเบาหวานมีความหลากหลายค่อนข้างสูงในแต่ละการศึษา วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่จะทำนายอัตราการรอดชีวิตของผู้ป่วยเบาหวานที่เกิดโรคไซนัสอักสบจากเชื้อราชนิดรุกราน วิธีการศึกษา การศึกษาแบบย้อนหลังนี้ได้จัดทำในโรงพยาบาลระดับตติยภูมิ 4 แห่ง ในประเทศไทย, มาเลเซีย และเมียนมาร์ โดยเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลในผู้ป่วยเบาหวานที่เกิดโรคไซนัสอักสบจากเชื้อราชนิดรุกราน ตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 2008 ถึง ค.ศ.2019 ผลที่ต้องการศึกษาคืออัตราการรอดชีวิต ปัจจัยทำนายที่นำมาวิเคราะห์ ได้แก่ อายุ, ระดับฮีโมโกลบินเอวันซีในเลือด, ภาวะเลือดเป็นกรดคีโต, ระดับเม็ดเลือดขาว, ภาวะน้ำตาลในเลือดสูง, ระยะเวลาที่เป็นโรคเบาหวาน, การใช้ยารักษาเบาหวานในปัจจุบัน, ระดับครีเอทีนีนในเลือด, และการกระจายของโรคไซนัสอักสบจากเชื้อราชนิดรุกรานเข้าไปที่ตา, คาเวอร์นัสไซนัส และโพรงสมอง ผลการศึกษา มีการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลในผู้ป่วยเบาหวานที่เกิดโรคไซนัสอักสบจากเชื้อราชนิดรุกราน 65 ราย (อายุเฉลี่ย 57.9±13.4 ปี, เพศชาย 60%) ผลพบว่า อัตราการเสียชีวิตอยู่ที่ 21.5 % โดยพบว่าการกระจายของโรคไซนัสอักสบจากเชื้อราชนิดรุกรานเข้าคาเวอร์นัส ไซนัส (hazard ratio 5.1, 95% CI [1.4–18.2], p=0.01) และโพรงสมอง (hazard ratio 3.4, 95% CI [1.1–11.3], p=0.05) เป็นปัจจัยทำนายอัตราการเสียชีวิต ส่วนการรักษาเบาหวานเป็นปัจจัยที่ลดความเสี่ยงของการเสียชีวิต (hazard ratio 0.2, 95% CI [0.1–0.9], p=0.03) ด้านอัตราการรอดชีวิตในระยะเวลา 6 เดือนในผู้ป่วยที่มีการกระจายของโรคไซนัสอักสบจากเชื้อราชนิดรุกรานเข้าไปและไม่เข้าไปที่คาเวอร์นัสไซนัสอยู่ที่ 51.4% และ 83.6% ตามลำดับ, (p <0.01), เข้าไปและไม่เข้าไปที่โพรงสมองอยู่ที่ 53.3% และ 88.9% ตามลำดับ, (p <0.01) และมีการใช้ยารักษาเบาหวานและไม่มีการใช้ยารักษาเบาหวานอยู่ที่ 82.3% และ 57.5% ตามลำดับ, (p =0.05) สรุป การกระจายของโรคไซนัสอักสบจากเชื้อราชนิดรุกรานเข้าไปที่คาเวอร์นัสไซนัสและโพรงสมองเพิ่มความเสี่ยงต่อการเสียชีวิตในผู้ป่วยเบาหวาน การรอดชีวิตมีความสัมพันธ์กับการใช้ยารักษาเบาหวานในปัจจุบัน
