Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This research explores the application of Stella Adler’s and Michael Chekhov’s acting techniques in portraying characters with mental health conditions, focusing specifically on Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Recognising the complexity of these conditions, which often involve emotional instability, identity disturbance, and behavioural contradictions, the study examines the challenges actors face in authentically representing both the internal psychological states and external behaviours of such characters. The research analyses Adler’s emphasis on imagination and the character’s given circumstances, alongside Chekhov’s techniques of Psychological Gesture and Imaginary Centre, using Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler as …
The Semiotic Construction Of A K-Pop Fanscape In Thai Public Space: A Case Of K-Pop Artist Café In Bangkok, Athit Wu
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study investigates the fanscape of K-Pop cafés in Bangkok as socially constructed spaces shaped by fans’ cultural, semiotic, and spatial practices, where fan identity is articulated (Kim, 2017). Drawing on geosemiotics (Scollon & Scollon, 2003), it examines the visual semiotics, both linguistic and non-linguistic elements, and analyzes the interaction order and place semiotics found in Thai K-Pop cafés. The data were drawn from the ethnographic fieldwork of four fan-organized cafés (Neverland, STAY, ARMY, MY) in Bangkok. The analysis of visual semiotics shows that fans use multimodal elements, such as color, gaze, typography, and intertextuality, to visually construct the identity of …

Three Essays On Trade Diversification And Trade Structure In South Asian Economies, Nazmullah Bin Tariq
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Two interrelated ideas of trade, trade diversification and trade structure, as well as their effects on inequality, income, and output, are explicitly explained in this thesis. Trade diversification refers to a shift towards a more varied structure of trade, reducing reliance on a few products. Trade diversification can be decomposed into intensive and extensive margins which represent the diversification arising from traditional goods and diversification arising from trading new goods respectively. Trade structure, on the other hand, captures the composition and characteristics of a country’s trade, including the number and type of trade partners and the concentration of trade among …

Dual Effects Of Health Insurance And Socioeconomic Status On Healthcare Utilization And Unmet Needs In Thailand: Insights From Two Surveys, Kanokluck Thongkalya
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In Thailand, universal health coverage (UHC) has expanded insurance enrollment. However, barriers to healthcare access persist across socioeconomic and employment sectors. Existing literature often examines the effects of socioeconomic status (SES) and health insurance separately, leaving a gap in understanding how these factors jointly influence healthcare outcomes. This study investigates the combined influence of SES and health insurance on healthcare utilization and unmet needs, emphasizing the importance of considering both factors together. Given Thailand’s labor market, which includes both formal and informal sectors, understanding how different types of health insurance correspond to varying SES levels is essential for assessing access …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study investigated how input frequency enhanced the acquisition of English nominal suffixes by L1 Thai learners. Based on the Usage-based Account (Tomasello, 2003), it was hypothesized that input frequency—i.e., token frequency (the frequency of derived forms containing a particular suffix) and type frequency (suffix frequency)—facilitates the perception and production of English nominal suffixes. Also, there is a relationship between input frequency and proficiency levels among L1 Thai learners. A Grammaticality Judgment Test (GJT) and a Fill-in-the-Blank Test were administered to three groups. The first two groups consisted of 60 L1 Thai learners at the intermediate and advanced proficiency levels, …
