Food For Thought: A Public Health Approach To The School Food Environment, Lori Andersen Aug 2016

Food For Thought: A Public Health Approach To The School Food Environment, Lori Andersen

BYU Research Development Office Research Networking Conference

Childhood obesity is a critical public health issue with long-term implications for physical and mental health. Schools play a pivotal role in shaping children's dietary habits and physical activity levels. This research focuses on school-based interventions aimed at preventing obesity among children and adolescents. Specifically, it examines the impact of school lunch and breakfast programs on obesity rates. By analyzing these programs, we aim to identify effective strategies for promoting healthy eating habits and preventing obesity in the school environment.

Molecular Pathways Of Beta-Cell Function And Proliferation, Jeffery S. Tessem Aug 2015

Molecular Pathways Of Beta-Cell Function And Proliferation, Jeffery S. Tessem

BYU Research Development Office Research Networking Conference

Areas of Interest: Delineating the molecular pathways that increase β-cell proliferation; enhance glucose stimulated insulin secretion; protection against β-cell death; effects of maternal environment, aging and nutrients on functional β-cell mass

Molecular Pathways Of Beta-Cell Function And Proliferation, Jeffery S. Tessem Aug 2013

Molecular Pathways Of Beta-Cell Function And Proliferation, Jeffery S. Tessem

BYU Research Development Office Research Networking Conference

Primary focuses: identify molecular accelerators and brakes of beta cell replication; understand how these factors regulate functional beta cell mass; develop small molecule activators of beta cell proliferation pathways; apply findings to two-state models of beta cell function (obese vs. lean, young vs. aged, male vs. female); and, discover unique regulators of integrative metabolism.
