Francis A. Allen: 'Confront[Ing] The Most Explosive Problems' And 'Plumbing All Issues To Their Full Depth Without Fear Or Prejudice', Yale Kamisar
Articles
Frank Allen began his distinguished teaching career more than thirty-five years ago - at a time when, at more law schools than we like to remember, "the basic criminal law course was routinely assigned to the youngest and most vulnerable member of the faculty or to that colleague suspected of mild brain damage and hence incompetent to deal with courses that really matter."' That those of us who taught criminal law years later were warmly received by our colleagues is in no small measure a tribute to the quality of mind and character and intellectual energy of people like Allen, …

Judicially Ordered Social Reform: Neofederalism And Neonationalism And The Debate Over Political Structure, David Rudenstine
Judicially Ordered Social Reform: Neofederalism And Neonationalism And The Debate Over Political Structure, David Rudenstine
Articles
The article examines the ideological divide within the U.S. Supreme Court between neofederalism and neonationalism, two legal theories that shape the Court's approach to federalism and individual rights. Neofederalism emphasizes state autonomy and limits federal intervention in state institutions, while neonationalism advocates for a stronger federal role in protecting individual rights, even if it requires overriding state decisions. This divide significantly influences the Court's rulings on issues such as prison conditions and institutional reform, reflecting broader debates about the role of federalism in social reform and judicial decision-making.
Optimum Shape Synthesis Of Maximum Gain Omnidirectional Antennas, Frances J. Harackiewicz, David M. Pozar
Optimum Shape Synthesis Of Maximum Gain Omnidirectional Antennas, Frances J. Harackiewicz, David M. Pozar
Articles
Using characteristic mode shape synthesis, some antenna surfaces and their current distributions are found which produce maximum realizable gain for rotationally symmetric omnidirectional antennas. The same shape synthesis method fails to produce antennas which have maximum endfire gain.

The Drafting Process For Cabinet Bills, Daniel H. Foote
Articles
I have undertaken this article in hope that it may be of some help in promoting public understanding of the actual manner of review by the Cabinet Legislation Bureau-one step in the drafting process for legislation introduced by the Cabinet-and of the diligent efforts of the rpresentatives of the various ministries with whom we regularly come into contact. It goes without saying that the views and explanations contained herein, along with any inadequacies or inaccuracies in this account, are solely the responsibility of this author.

Judicial Criticism, James Boyd White
Judicial Criticism, James Boyd White
Articles
Today I shall talk about the criticism of judicial opinions, especially of constitutional opinions. This may at first seem to have rather little to do with our larger topic, "The Constitution and Human Values," but I hope that by the end I will be seen to be talking about that subject too. In fact I hope to show that in what I call our "criticism" our "values" are defined and made actual in most important ways.
In Step With The Times: Law Library Keeps Up With Changes In Legal Research, Margaret A. Leary
In Step With The Times: Law Library Keeps Up With Changes In Legal Research, Margaret A. Leary
Articles
Change is constant in legal research. Plucknett's work describes, for example, the modem textbook replacing published case reports as the most important form of legal literature. More recently, A.B.W. Simpson has argued that the law review article has displaced the treatise. Apart from these changes, the law itself has continued to embrace concepts from other disciplines and deal with facts and methodologies of an increasingly technological society.

Near the end of Eyrbyggja saga Porir asks Ospak and his men where they had gotten the goods they were carrying. Ospak said that they had gotten them at Pambardal. "How did you come by them?" said Porir. Ospak answered, "They were not given, they were not paid to me, nor were they sold either." Ospak had earlier that evening raided the house of a farmer called Alf and made away with enough to burden four horses. And this was exactly what he told Porir when he wittily eliminated the other modes of transfer by which he could have acquired …
