Performance Indicators In Club Level Gaelic Football, Kevin Mcguigan, Mike Hughes, Denise Martin
Performance Indicators In Club Level Gaelic Football, Kevin Mcguigan, Mike Hughes, Denise Martin
Articles
Over 2000 Gaelic Football clubs compete annually for the honour of playing in the All-Ireland club finals in Croke Park in front of up to 30,000 people. There are no published performance data for club level Gaelic football, despite evidence of considerable performance analysis activity. This study aims to establish benchmark profiles for Senior, Intermediate and Junior grade club Gaelic football and investigate which variables are most closely associated with winning.
Data from all tiers of the Ulster club football championship of 2015 and 2016 (n = 48) were analysed using a range of validated operational definitions measuring 17 …
Introducing A New Cement Hydration And Microstructure Model, Niall Holmes
Introducing A New Cement Hydration And Microstructure Model, Niall Holmes
Articles
This paper presents a new cement hydration model (HYDCEM) to predict the microstructure evolution of hydrating tricalcium silicate (C3S). The model is written in MATLAB and employs the continuum approach and integrated particle kinetics relationships to show the change in C3S and the growth of Calcium Silicate Hydrate (C-S-H) and Calcium Hydroxide (CH) in the pore space over time. Cement hydration is a highly complex process. While hydration models should never completely remove experimental analysis, they are an aid to better understand cement hydration and microstructure development by providing a method to analyse a large number of pastes with different …
Clarifying The “Probate Lending” Debate: A Response To Professors Horton And Chandrasekher, Jeremy Kidd
Clarifying The “Probate Lending” Debate: A Response To Professors Horton And Chandrasekher, Jeremy Kidd
Articles
The debate over third-party funding of legal claims just got more interesting. The debate already had plot twists, such as free-market scholars lining up in opposition to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and alongside proplaintiff scholars who they oppose in tort reform debates. Now add to the mix a recent paper by Professors Horton and Chandrasekher that introduced an entirely new angle to the debate: funding of probate disputes. Now that this parallel area of funding has been identified, comparing and contrasting probate funding with litigation funding should illuminate the incentives that funders/recipients face in both scenarios. By pointing out …
Texas Gulf Sulphur: A Case Study On Responding To Market Rumors, Wendy Gerwick Couture
Texas Gulf Sulphur: A Case Study On Responding To Market Rumors, Wendy Gerwick Couture
Articles
This essay uses Texas Gulf Sulphur as a case study on an issue that companies continue to face today: whether, and how, to respond to market rumors. This essay analyzes the countervailing incentives that influence whether companies respond to market rumors, applies those pressures to the facts of Texas Gulf Sulphur, and concludes that counsel today would likely advise similarly situated companies to remain silent rather than respond to market rumors. Drawing therefrom, this essay argues that silence is not the socially optimal response and that the dueling pressures on companies should be adjusted to incentivize companies to respond to …
Digital Preservation Practices Among Midwestern Four-Year Public Colleges And Universities, Matthew J. Gorzalski
Digital Preservation Practices Among Midwestern Four-Year Public Colleges And Universities, Matthew J. Gorzalski
Articles
This article is the result of a study to survey the landscape of digital preservation practices and infrastructure at midwestern four-year public colleges and universities. It summarizes the staffing, tools, policy, and procedural characteristics of the survey population, compares these results to previous studies, and questions if a model for a successful program has emerged. The article concludes by arguing that instead of measuring digital preservation program development to existing ideal models, resource-strapped archives will better assess progress using a matrix linking reasonably achievable infrastructure and workflows with corresponding, categorized levels of financial, technical, and human resources

Self-Healing Asphalt Review: From Idea To Practice, S. Xu, Alvaro García, Junfeng Su, Quantao Liu, Amir Tabakovic, Erik Schlangen
Articles
With the advantages of cost efficiency, noise reduction, and comfort driving experience, asphalt is widely used as a binding material in pavement engineering. However, after years of serving, asphalt concrete gets damaged under cyclic vehicle loading. Meanwhile, due to environmental effects including ageing and moisture damage, asphalt binder becomes brittle with time. As a result, microcracks initiate and grow into larger scales, which accelerates the damaging process and finally leads to distresses like raveling, potholes, cracking, and so on. In 1967, Bazin and Saunier[1] witnessed and reported a temperature related healing phenomenon in asphalt mix after loadings. After that, the …

Fearless Speech, Mary Anne Franks
Fearless Speech, Mary Anne Franks
Articles
The American conception of free speech is primarily defined as the freedom to say whatever one wants, with little regard for the quality, context, or impact of the speech. Thus, American free speech doctrine is often characterized as neutral with regard to the speaker and the content of speech; in practice, however, it consistently privileges powerful over vulnerable speakers and harmful over critical speech.
From Philadelphia to Skokie to Charlottesville, the First Amendment has been interpreted to protect speech by white men that silences and endangers women and minorities. As free speech doctrine and practice become increasingly concerned with private …
Presidential Control Over International Law, Curtis A. Bradley, Jack L. Goldsmith
Presidential Control Over International Law, Curtis A. Bradley, Jack L. Goldsmith
Articles
Presidents have come to dominate the making, interpretation, and termination of international law for the United States. Often without specific congressional concurrence, and sometimes even when it is likely that Congress would disagree, Presidents assert the authority to (a) make a vast array of international obligations for the United States, through both written agreements and the development of customary international law; (b) make increasingly consequential political commitments for the United States on practically any topic; (c) interpret these obligations and commitments; and (d) terminate or withdraw from these obligations and commitments. While others have examined pieces of this picture, no …
