Lizard Energetics And Diet, F. Harvey Pough

Articles

Article may be found at: http://www.jstor.org/view/00129658/di960231/96p00137/0 In the families Agamidae, Gerrhosauridae, Iguanidae, and Scincidae, species that weigh more than 300 g are almost all herbivores, whereas those weighing less than 50-100 g are carnivores. Juveniles of large herbivorous species tend to be carnivorous until they reach body weights of 50-300 g. Diet is compared to metabolic expenditure in these lizards. Although smaller animals have higher weight-specific metabolic rates, the greater total metabolicrate of larger animals requires a greater caloric intake. Juvenile animals and species of small body size are primarily insectivorous. It is postulated that larger animals of these families …

The National Industrial Pollution Control Council: Advise Or Collude?, William H. Rodgers, Jr. Mar 1972

The National Industrial Pollution Control Council: Advise Or Collude?, William H. Rodgers, Jr.

Articles

This article analyzes three aspects of the National Industrial Pollution Countrol Coucil's performance: (1) the promise and risks it has presented; (2) its procedural performance, as tested by governing law; and (3) its accomplishments, both on the record and sub rosa, as measured by the expectations. In brief, NIPCC is portrayed as a dangerously anticompetitive institution occasionally doing business in violation of the law. The Council has published both public relations material and some useful data, but it has served more importantly as a lobbying forum for industries chafing under the regulatory bit. The experience of NIPCC forms the basis …

Recreation, Fish, Wildlife And The Public Land Law Review Commission, Ralph W. Johnson

Articles

Scanning the entire Report of the Public Land Law Review Commission (One Third of the Nation's Land: A Report to the President and to the Congress (1970) will make a back country hiker swallow twice, call his congressman to quash the Report, and head for the hinterland for one last look before the loggers, miners, golfers, farmers, and house builders arrive. Although the Report does not say so in so many words it ends up as a kind of potpourri, where everyone gets something. It attempts to say all things to all people, to suggest that everyone will be gainers-that …

While there may be some slight modifications, and certainly some variety in the degree of additional detail included in the individual codes by each republic,11 these Principles present already a fairly comprehensive picture of the shape of the future law. Washington Timber Deeds And Contracts, Ralph W. Johnson

Articles
