Sclerosis-Associated Follicular Center Cell Lymphoma In The Retroperitoneum : The First Clinicopathologicla Study Of A Frequently Encountered Subtype Of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Michael Ethan Katz
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Follicular center cell lymphoma with sclerosis is a significant clinicopathologic entity which has received little attention to date. Its uniqueness has been obscured by quarrels over classification of the non-Hodgkin's lymphomas; and by the reluctance of some to accept it as a bona fide pathologic subtype in the retroperitoneum, its most common site of presentation. This thesis examines the clinical and pathological findings in a series of 22 cases of retroperitoneal follicular center cell lymphoma with sclerosis obtained from the hematopathology files of Yale-New Haven Hospital. Background material on the immunobiology, classification, and staging of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas is provided; and …

On The Exact Distribution Of Liml, Peter C.B. Phillips
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
It is shown that the exact distribution of the LIML estimator in a general and leading single equation case is multivariate Cauchy. The corresponding result for the IV estimator is a form of multivariate t density where the degrees of freedom depend on the number of instruments.

The Relationships Of The Yellow-Breasted Chat (Icteria Virens) And The Alleged Slowdown In The Rate Of Macromolecular Evolution In Birds, Charles G. Sibley, Jon E. Ahlquist
The Relationships Of The Yellow-Breasted Chat (Icteria Virens) And The Alleged Slowdown In The Rate Of Macromolecular Evolution In Birds, Charles G. Sibley, Jon E. Ahlquist
Postilla
The taxonomic relationships of the Yellow-breasted Chat (Icteria virens) have been uncertain since its discovery more than 200 years ago. Although usually considered to be a New World wood warbler (Parulini) it possesses structural and behavioral characteristics that seem aberrant in comparison with the typical members of that group. The relationships of Icteria were investigated by comparing its single-copy DNA sequences with those of other New World nine-primaried oscines and representatives of other oscine families, using the technique of DNA-DNA hybridization. The data indicate that Icteria is a paruline warbler and it should continue to be included within that group. …

An Early Triassic Hybodont Shark From Northern Madagascar, Keith Stewart Thomson
Postilla
Material of the upper and lower jaws, together with teeth and other remains, of a Triassic hybodont shark from Madagascar is tentatively referred to the genus Acrodus. The material offers new evidence concerning the jaw suspension in hybodont sharks and its significance in the evolution of Elasmobranchii.

Approximate Cores Of A General Class Of Economies. Part I: Replica Games, Externalities, And Approximate Cores, Martin Shubik, Myrna Holtz Wooders
Approximate Cores Of A General Class Of Economies. Part I: Replica Games, Externalities, And Approximate Cores, Martin Shubik, Myrna Holtz Wooders
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
Sufficient conditions are demonstrated for the non-emptiness of asymptotic cores of sequences of replica games, i.e., for all sufficiently large replications, the games have non-empty approximate cores and the approximation can be made arbitrarily “good”. The conditions are simply that the games are superadditive and satisfy a very non-restrictive “per-capita” boundedness assumption (these properties are satisfied by games derived from well-known models of replica economies). It is argued that the results can be applied to a broad class of games derived from economic models, including ones with external economies and diseconomies, indivisibilities and non-convexities. To support this claim, in Part …

Approximate Cores Of A General Class Of Economies: Part Ii. Set-Up Costs And Firm Formation In Coalition Production Economies, Martin Shubik, Myrna Holtz Wooders
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
A general model of a coalition production economy allowing set-up costs, indivisibilities, and non-convexities is developed. It is shown that for all sufficiently large replications, approximate cores of the economy are non-empty.

Cores Of Partitioning Games, Mamoru Kaneko, Myrna Holtz Wooders
Cores Of Partitioning Games, Mamoru Kaneko, Myrna Holtz Wooders
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
A generalization of assignment games, called partitioning games, is introduced. Given a finite set N of players, there is an a priori given subset pi of coalitions of N and only coalitions in pi play an essential role. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the non-emptiness of the cores of all games with essential coalitions pi are developed. These conditions appear extremely restrictive. However, when N is “large,” there are relatively few “types” of players, and members of pi are “small” and defined in terms of numbers of players of each type contained in subsets, then approximate cores are non-empty.

Equatorial Current Measurements, I. Moored Observations, James R. Luyten
Journal of Marine Research
The low frequency fluctuations in the western Indian Ocean are dominated by energetic variability with relatively small horizontal and vertical scales. The time series of horizontal current and temperature exhibit a number of energetic events which, for the most part, are not sufficiently resolved to assign a spatial scale to the underlying process....

On The Movements Of Deep Mesoscale Eddies In The North Atlantic, Doron Nof
Journal of Marine Research
A simplified three layer model is considered in order to examine the movements of deep mesoscale eddies such as the isolated Mediterranean eddies observed off the Bahamas. These anticyclonic eddies are found in the permanent thermocline more than 6000 km away from their parent water mass and are characterized by a lens-like cross section....

Temporal And Spatial Patterns Of Monsoonal Upwelling Along Arabia: A Modem Analogue For The Interpretation Of Quaternary Sst Anomalies, Warren L. Prell
Journal of Marine Research
Several lines of evidence suggest that monsoonal circulation and its associated upwelling in the Arabian Sea have experienced significant fluctuations during the past 105 years. To construct an analogue model to interpret such changes, we have used the monthly average sea-surface temperature (SST) data from Hastenrath and Lamb (1979) to define the temporal and spatial pattern of upwelling along Arabia....

Perspectives Of Research On Detritus: Do Factors Controlling The Availability Of Detritus To Macroconsumers Depend On Its Source?, K. R. Tenore, L. Cammen, S. E.G. Findlay, N. Phillips
Journal of Marine Research
Various factors have been suggested as regulating the availability of detritus to detritivores, e.g., particle-size and microbial dynamics, nutritional composition of detritus per se, and chemical inhibitors/ enhancers. These factors might vary in importance depending on detritus source: fecal pellets, vascular plants, or seaweed-derived detritus. We review the literature to evaluate the above factors and suggest that future research on detritus should consider regulatory mechanisms which depend on detritus type.

Daily Patterns Of Fluorescence In Vivo In The Central Equatorial Pacific, Patrick J. Setser, Norman L. Guinasso Jr., David R. Schink
Journal of Marine Research
A daily cycle of fluorescence in vivo was strikingly apparent in surface waters of the central equatorial Pacific between latitudes 4N and 10S, but not in waters to the north or south of this zone. These changes in fluorescence did not represent changes in chlorophyll-a concentration, but rather a photoinhibition of fluorescence by ambient light. Higher nutrient and chlorophyll-a concentrations were found in the region where cycling occurred....
