On The Equivalence Of Nonlocal And Radial-Diffusion Models For Porewater Irrigation, Bernard P. Boudreau
On The Equivalence Of Nonlocal And Radial-Diffusion Models For Porewater Irrigation, Bernard P. Boudreau
Journal of Marine Research
Aller (1977, 1978, 1980) and Aller and Yingst (1978) have demonstrated that the presence of well-irrigated worm-tubes and other animal burrows in sediments can significantly alter the rate of exchange of solutes between porewater and the overlying waters. Specifically, the burrows modify the geometry of the porewater system such that solutes can diffuse toward or away from either the sediment-water interface or the burrow. The burrow constitutes an additional boundary source or sink...

Studies Of Plasma Membrane Domain-Specific Molecules In Isolated And Cultured Rat Hepatocytes, Pamela Leslie Zeitlin
Studies Of Plasma Membrane Domain-Specific Molecules In Isolated And Cultured Rat Hepatocytes, Pamela Leslie Zeitlin
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Single rat hepatocytes, prepared by collagenase perfusion of liver, lost the three morphologically and functionally distinct plasma membrane domains that exist in situ (sinusoidal, bile canalicular, and lateral). Hepatocytes placed in monolayer culture re-established morphologically distinct plasma membrane regions analogous to the original three domains. The behavior of several domain-specific markers was studied in these cells. The asialoglycoprotein (ASGP) receptor, an integral membrane glycoprotein normally restricted at the surface to the sinusoidal domain in situ, was retained in both single hepatocytes (> 95%) and in cells after 24 hr in monolayer culture but at lower levels. Cytochemistry with asialo-oroso-mucoid-horseradish peroxidase …
Stochastic Equilibrium And Turnpike Property: The Discounted Case, Ramon Marimon
Stochastic Equilibrium And Turnpike Property: The Discounted Case, Ramon Marimon
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
The existence of the modified golden rule and the turnpike property are proved for a multi-sector stochastic growth model. The (exogenous) stochastic environment is represented by a stationary stochastic process that influences preferences, technology and resources. A social planner maximizes the expected sum of discounted utilities. The conditions required in order to obtain these results, are the natural strengthening of the stability conditions of the deterministic case. As in the deterministic case, the discount factor must be close to one in order to guarantee the almost sure (and in the mean) convergence of optimal interior programs. It is proved that …

The Exact Distribution Of The Stein-Rule Estimator, Peter C.B. Phillips
The Exact Distribution Of The Stein-Rule Estimator, Peter C.B. Phillips
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
This paper derives the exact density of the Stein-rule estimator in the setting of the general linear regression. The derivation is facilitated by the author’s development of new algebraic methods that involve an extension of the Weyl calculus. General formulae for the moments of the estimator are also provided.
Finite Sample Econometrics Using Era's, Peter C.B. Phillips
Finite Sample Econometrics Using Era's, Peter C.B. Phillips
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
The paper considers approximate distribution theory as a way to deliver practical improvements over asymptotic methods. Trials of the adequacy of asymptotic series based approximations are conducted and the results exhibit the need for further improvements. An alternative approach is suggested which utilizes a family of extended rational approximants (ERA’s). ERA’s build on the strength of primitive exact theory or asymptotic series; they allow us to blend information from diverse analytic numerical and experimental sources. The ultimate objective of the approach is to incorporate directly into software constructive functional approximants relevant to statistical practice. An illustration is provided.

A New Subfamily, Conacodontinae, And New Species, Conacodon Kohlbergeri, Of The Periptychidae (Condylarthra, Mammalia), J. David Archibald, Robert Milton Schoch, J. Keith Rigby Jr.
Postilla
An associated palate and dentaries from the early Paleocene (Puercan), San Juan Basin, New Mexico, are the type of a new species, Conacodon kohlbergeri. This species is cladistically most closely related to C. entoconus. Both species lack the paraconid on P3-4 and have a more complete precingulum on the upper molars. Both Conacodon and Oxyacodon have a lingually expanded hypocone and lack the protocone on P3. These two genera are included in a new subfamily, Conacodontinae. A trichotomy between this subfamily, the Anisonchinae, and Periptychinae cannot be resolved at present.
