Cost Based Nonlinear Pricing, Dirk Bergemann, Tibor Heumann, Stephen Morris
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
How should a seller offer quantity or quality differentiated products if they have no information about the distribution of demand? We consider a seller who cares about the "profit guarantee" of a pricing rule, that is, the minimum ratio of expected profits to expected social surplus for any distribution of demand.
We show that the profit guarantee is maximized by setting the price markup over cost equal to the elasticity of the cost function. We provide profit guarantees (and associated mechanisms) that the seller can achieve across all possible demand distributions. With a constant elasticity cost function, constant markup pricing …

Reports
Throughout most of the measures in this report, there are important differences by race/ethnicity and neighborhood that reflect differences in access to resources and other social needs. Wherever possible, data are presented with racial/ethnic breakdowns, as defined by existing federal data collection standards. However, for smaller groups or more detailed breakdowns, some values may not be available or have less reliable data. In these cases, values are marked as “N/A,” not available. Federal and statewide approaches to data collection, including small sample sizes, tend to hide disparities within certain population groups. This does not mean that a given population is …

Effect Of Intranasal Insulin For Anosmia And Hyposmia In Parkinson’S Patients, Eden Anonye
Effect Of Intranasal Insulin For Anosmia And Hyposmia In Parkinson’S Patients, Eden Anonye
Yale School of Medicine Physician Associate Program Theses
Olfaction impairment is one of the earliest nonmotor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Olfaction disorders in patients with Parkinson’s disease can range from hyposmia, a reduction in smell ability, to anosmia, a complete loss of smell. Regardless of severity, olfaction loss can result in decreased well-being and mood disorders. However, there is no approved management for anosmia or hyposmia secondary to Parkinson’s disease. Insulin is hypothesized to modulate olfactory neuron regeneration in patients with post-infectious hyposmia, but its effects have not been studied in Parkinson’s patients. Using a randomized controlled trial design, we seek to determine whether eight weeks of daily …
Brief Interventions In Adult Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass Patients With At-Risk Alcohol Use, Ruth Seok
Brief Interventions In Adult Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass Patients With At-Risk Alcohol Use, Ruth Seok
Yale School of Medicine Physician Associate Program Theses
Bariatric surgeries are the most effective treatment for severe obesity. However, despite the benefits, patients who undergo bariatric surgery, especially Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, are at a higher risk of developing alcohol use disorders compared to the general population. There is currently limited research that evaluates interventions to decrease unhealthy alcohol use in at-risk bariatric patients. This study aims to investigate whether an intervention strategy known as Brief Intervention can reduce alcohol consumption in Roux-en-Y patients who screen positive for at-risk alcohol use. We will randomize adult post-operative patients who screen positive to either receive brief interventions or usual care. Alcohol …
Physician Assistants And Emergency Department Metrics In Australia, Benjamin Zeid
Physician Assistants And Emergency Department Metrics In Australia, Benjamin Zeid
Yale School of Medicine Physician Associate Program Theses
Australian Emergency Departments (EDs) suffer from growing demand leading to increased wait times and length of stay for patients which are correlated with worse outcomes. Physician Assistants/Associates (PAs) have improved patient wait times and length of stay (LOS) in EDs of several countries. The PA role is relatively new to Australia and the effect of PA integration on wait time and LOS for ED patient encounters is unknown. In this study, we will conduct a single center retrospective secondary analysis of health records and hospital data between January and July 2019 of patients treated at the Townsville University Hospital ED …

United States: Swaps To The Bank For International Settlements And Deutsche Bundesbank, 1967, Vincient Arnold
Journal of Financial Crises
The devaluation of British sterling in November 1967 caused major disruptions in currency markets; led to concerns that the US dollar, the lynchpin of the global gold standard system, would also devalue; and threatened the stability of financial markets, particularly the market for US dollars overseas. The Federal Reserve and European central banks used a network of preexisting swap lines in the ensuing weeks to stabilize exchange rates, defend the gold standard, and calm global markets. In most cases, central banks used these swaps to stabilize exchange rates. However, the main purpose of several of these swaps was arguably to …

Asean Swap Arrangement, 1977–2021, Benjamin Hoffner
Journal of Financial Crises
Established on August 5, 1977, by the five central banks of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the ASEAN Swap Arrangement (ASA) was one of several regional financial safety nets developed during a decade defined by macroeconomic instability, with the collapse of the gold standard and an oil crisis. Each of the five ASEAN members (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand) agreed to contribute one-fifth to a commitment pool of USD 100 million to provide short-term dollar swaps to any pool member experiencing temporary foreign exchange liquidity issues. The ASA provided swaps with maximum maturities of three months, …
