Gendered Language In The Catalogues Of Saint Mary’S Academy, 1860-1871, Kylie Hamm
Gendered Language In The Catalogues Of Saint Mary’S Academy, 1860-1871, Kylie Hamm
Masters Theses
This research builds upon studies that explore Catholic women’s and girls’ educational institutions in the nineteenth century. This case study focuses on one girls’ academy, Saint Mary’s Academy, precursor to Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana, founded by the Congregation of the Holy Cross in 1844. The research provided here analyzes the gendered language utilized by school leaders in the academy’s public catalogues during the decade of the Civil War, from 1860 through 1871. The language in these catalogues subtly changed over the course of the decade, reflecting changing white, middle-class gender norms surrounding women’s work and education. Leaders of …
Impact Of Exposure On Thin Epoxy Overlay Performance, Abul Fazal Mazumder
Impact Of Exposure On Thin Epoxy Overlay Performance, Abul Fazal Mazumder
Dissertations
Thin epoxy overlays are used for improving the condition and extending the service life of bridge decks. The tensile bond pull-off strength, evaluated as per the ASTM C1583, is used as the performance indicator. A failure in the substrate with a tensile strength of 250 psi or greater is considered acceptable. However, the performance evaluated on in-service bridge decks shows inconsistent results. Laboratory studies by several researchers documented a distinct performance difference when the overlays are exposed to room temperatures in comparison to elevated temperatures. However, the most influential parameters such as concrete surface profile, thermal compatibility between overlay and …

Standardized 1x6u Cubesat Structure Design, Maximilian H. Brummel
Masters Theses
A CubeSat is a small satellite composed of one or more 10cm x 10cm x ~10cm cubes. Sometimes referred to as a “U” as in unit, the cubes can be combined in configurations of 2U, 3U, 6U, and more. CubeSats provide many advantages that larger satellites cannot offer. They are relatively inexpensive and can be fabricated much faster. Small-scale projects that require a fast timeline from conception up to completion are perfect for CubeSats. Furthermore, educational programs use CubeSat projects to teach and prepare students for the satellite industry. Popular configurations for CubeSat are 1U, 3U and 6U where the …

Essays On The Impacts Of Extreme Natural Events On Health, Moumita Ghorai
Dissertations
This dissertation comprises three chapters that examine how extreme events impact health outcomes such as short-term illness, body mass index, probability of pre-term birth, and mortality. The study reveals the severe consequences of these events and shows that certain groups within a particular country are affected disproportionately.
The first chapter examines whether National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), India’s flagship workfare program, mitigates adverse health outcomes of a drought. This paper contributes to a growing area of research on adaptations to climate change. Using Indian Human Development Survey (2004-2005 and 2010-2011), a nationally representative panel data set, and high resolution …
