Much has been written about reading. Hundreds of research projects have been carried out to determine just what can be done to improve the teaching of reading in the nation's schools. From all sides come advice, suggestions, panaceas and gimmicks to make all children accomplished readers. School mail is filled with advertisements extolling new books, workbooks, programs, and what-have-you that will greatly improve the school reading program. Millions of dollars have been spent purchasing these materials and yet reading is still a major problem in every school.

Today we are teaching all of the children of all of the people. The less selective the school enrollment, the greater the number of deficiencies found among the student body. When Judge Levi Baxter rapped for order in the afternoon of July 6, 1854, at Jackson, Michigan, his gavel echoed the discontent gripping the Old Northwest. Introduction

The purpose of this research was to prepare the bisarylsulfonic acid esters of 1,4-butanediol and 1,4-but-2-ynediol.

This series of compounds is of interest because of the antitumor activity exhibited by the bismethanesulfonates of 1,4-butanediol and 1,4-but-2-ynediol. The compounds which were prepared were submitted to Cancer Chemotherapy National Service Center for evaluation in their anticancer program.

It was hoped that the compounds synthesized would be of pharmacological value. It was further hoped that the biological test data of these compounds would demonstrate a correlation between types of substituents on the aromatic nucleus and the degree of activity of the compounds. …

The objective of this investigation was to obtain information regarding parental care in the Eastern Kingbird, Tyrannus tyrannus (L.), especially during post-hatching phases of the nesting cycle. In addition, some comparative observations were made on the Great Crested Flycatcher, Myiarchus crinitus (L.).
