A Descriptive Study Of Community Education Models According To Selected Dimensions, Dale L. Cook
Dissertations
The purposes of this study were to describe each of three models of community education along selected dimensions, and to describe how the models were similar and/or different from each other. The three models were defined according to the way community education organizations are financed. Model I represented those organizations in which the community education effort was totally financed through public schools. Model II represented those organizations in which the community education effort was jointly financed through public schools and other community resources. Model III represented those organizations in which the community education effort was financed through community resources other …

The Michigan City: A Demographic And Analytic Study Of The Growth And Development Of Five Regional Cities, Michael J. Evans
Honors Theses
This study involves the history of five of these towns, all located in southern Michigan, and the factors behind their beginnings, their growth, and in some cases their lack of growth or even decline in their population, their people, and their industrial, agricultural, and technological developments which were found to affect their future.

Paleoecology Of The Spiriferid Brachiopods Of The Silica Shale Formation (Middle Devonian), S.E. Michigan And N.W. Ohio, Darioush T. Ghahremani
Masters Theses
Spiriferid brachiopods of the Middle Devonian Silica Formation in northwestern Ohio and southeastern Michigan show many Features that are useful For paleoecologic interpretation. This study is undertaken to examine and interpret the paleoecology and paleobiology of six spiriferid brachiopods Mucrospirifer prolificus, Mucrospirifer grabaui, Mucrospirifer profundus, Mucrospirifer mucronatus, Paraspirifer bownockeri and Spinocyrtia euryteines. All are very abundant and can be easily collected from quarries in the Silica Formation near Sylvania, Ohio.
Fourteen different morphologic characteristics have been tabulated for all specimens used in this study. These characteristics allow interpretations of the ontogenetic de velopment and ecologic relationships of the six studied …

The Effects Of Electron-Donating And Electron-Withdrawing Groups On The Alkylation Sites Of Para-Substituted Phenylacetones, Abraham L. Faburada
Masters Theses
The dianions of phenylacetone and its para-substituted derivatives were generated using potassium hydride and n-butyl lithium in tetrahydrofuran. Methyl, ethyl, and n-butyl iodides were used to alkylate the dianions. The results of alkulation indicated that C1 is preferentially attacked by the less active ethyl and n-butyl iodides. The results further show that terminal alkylation is enhanced by electron-donating groups at the para-position of the phenyl ring. The results are rationalized in terms of the difference in electron density at C1 and at C3 in the dianion, on the basis of resonance theory. The regio-selectivity of alkylation as …

Ethnography For Archaeology: A Functional Interpretation Of An Upper Great Lakes Prehistoric Fishing Artifact, Donald E. Weston
Ethnography For Archaeology: A Functional Interpretation Of An Upper Great Lakes Prehistoric Fishing Artifact, Donald E. Weston
Masters Theses
Introduction and Problem
One of the basic and challenging tasks in archaeology is the interpretation of artifacts and the reconstruction of prehistoric cultures. Difficulties arise primarily because (1) not all past human behavior is manifest in the archaeological record, and (2) that which remains is only adequately represented. Our success at understanding prehistory is further limited by differential preservation, lack of representative samples, and loss of contextual data. Even with the use of sophisticated recovery techniques, vigorous analysis, and statistical manipulation it is seldom possible to arrive at neat reconstructions. Prehistory is, after all, the indirect study of human behavior …

Structural Effects On Micellar Catalyzed Reaction Of Hydroxamic Acids, Nop Utrapiromsuk
Masters Theses
Introduction
For many years scientists have tried to find a model which resembles a biological system, so that they can use this model for studying biological systems in human and in living organisms. Micelle systems provide the environment to mimic enzyme systems to some degree.1
Soaps and detergents generate micelles. Soaps and detergents have been used as cleansing agents for a long time. Their cleansing properties are related to micelle formation. Actually, soap is simply a mixture of sodium salts of long chain fatty acids, R-COO- Na+, and some detergents are general sodium salts of straight …
