Eye Movements During Reading: An Updated Bibliography (1966- ), Gloria T. Mann
Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
This bibliography contains references both directly and indirectly related to the quantitative recording of eye movements during the reading of English and certain foreign languages and has been compiled as an aid to those individuals interested in this field. It lists works which either were not cited by Taylor or were published since the appearance of his monograph.
Teaching Reading To The Disadvantaged, Ronald G. Noland
Teaching Reading To The Disadvantaged, Ronald G. Noland
Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
The effective education of disadvantaged learners constitutes one of the greatest challenges confronting American education today. Central to meeting this challenge is the development within such learners of the capacity to read effectively (15 ).

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
In the following paragraphs are listed a number of ideas for bringing attention to reading in the school. As the admen say, if you have their attention, half the battle is won. This article is directed to the typical teacher of reading in a school where not enough such attention is being paid to the cause of reading improvement. Our conviction is that the teacher of reading cannot accomplish much by working with a few students at a time in developmental or corrective reading. Our suggestions are meant to encourage the one or two members of the faculty who are …

Ten Years Of Research On Corrective Reading Programs: A Review Of The Literature, Sharon L. Smith
Ten Years Of Research On Corrective Reading Programs: A Review Of The Literature, Sharon L. Smith
Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
The purpose of this paper is to survey the research of the past ten years on corrective or remedial reading programs. In the literature, various definitions are given to corrective reading and remedial reading programs, but in this paper no distinction will be made between the two terms. Both terms refer to a plan of corrective instruction and treatment for the disabled reader, generally outside of the regular classroom setting.
Effects Of Controlled Overdrying On Some Physical Characteristics Of Paper Related To Printing Press Performance, Kenneth C. Pearson
Effects Of Controlled Overdrying On Some Physical Characteristics Of Paper Related To Printing Press Performance, Kenneth C. Pearson
Paper Engineering Senior Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of certain drying variables on some physical strength properties when these variables were controlled to bring about overdrying conditions. The variables under study were length of time and degree of temperature in relation to amount of drying produced. The results were then related to dimensional stability, tensile, stretch and mullen in an attempt to establish a relationship of overdrying to these physical characteristics.
The dimensional stability was run on the Neenah Multiple Specimen Expansimeter with tensile, stretch and mullen all run according to respective Tappi Standards.
From the study it …

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
Colleges and universities are presently launching a broad-based attack on improving their pre-service programs in the teaching of reading. The need for such an attack was evidenced by the first Harvard Carnegie Study (1) which disclosed inadequacies in pre-service reading courses. This report also revealed the failure of colleges to provide for practical approaches to the teaching of reading by prospective teachers.

Did You See "A Review of the Literature on Affective Education" by Tom Henderson in the November, 1972, issue of Contemporary Education? The article indicates that a substantial number of critics have demonstrated the need for more emphasis on the affective domain in education.

A Study To Determine The Effectiveness Of An Interest Grouping Classification For Primary Grade Children, Dianne T. Mcafee Williams
A Study To Determine The Effectiveness Of An Interest Grouping Classification For Primary Grade Children, Dianne T. Mcafee Williams
Masters Theses
The purpose was to determine if a subject arrangement of easy fiction books, based on the interests of primary-grade children, and denoted by picture symbols, would make the students more satisfied with, and independent in, their book selections, as compared to an author arrangement of easy fiction books.
The study was divided into two parts, the former dealing with the author arrangement and the latter dealing with the subject arrangement. Tally sheets of student subject requests were kept by the librarian in a comparison of the two arrangements. Followup included questionnaires to primary grade teachers and librarian, and interviews with …

Operant And Classical Conditioning Of Single Units In Area 18a Of The Rat’S Cortex, Francis E. Butler
Operant And Classical Conditioning Of Single Units In Area 18a Of The Rat’S Cortex, Francis E. Butler
Masters Theses
The effect of the previous history of a single unit on its present firing pattern was studied using classical and operant conditioning. The units were in area 18a of the rat's cortex. It was found that there are polymodal units in that area. The firing pattern can be changed using classical conditioning. The rate of firing can be increased one standard deviation above the mean rate by reinforcing with brain stimulation. The rate can also be changed one standard deviation below the mean rate. This occurs when the trials come at a fixed time and when the trials come at …

An Exploration Of Numerous Customer Characteristics Associated With Impulse Purchasing Behavior, Ira J. Jager
Masters Theses
Introduction
The term "impulse buying behavior" evokes different connotations to different researchers. It is for this reason that it is difficult to formulate a universal definition for all research in the field. Engel, Kollat, and Blackwell (1968) list some of the definitions given to impulse purchasing by those who have done research in this field:
(1) "An impulse purchase is an unplanned spur of the moment decision to purchase a product."
(2) "An impulse purchase is a logical and efficient way of making purchase decisions since by waiting until one is in the store to finalize purchase intentions, a more …

Investigation Of The Printing Evaluation Of Gloss Ink Holdout Of Finished Papers, John W. Harwood
Investigation Of The Printing Evaluation Of Gloss Ink Holdout Of Finished Papers, John W. Harwood
Paper Engineering Senior Theses
Gloss ink holdout is a description of an end result of a process involving many variables. The variables are the receptivity or absorbancy of the sheet for ink, the rate of penetration of the ink into the sheet, and the amount and type of ink used.
This experiment kept the amount and type of ink constant and looked at the absorbancy of the sheet and the penetration of the ink into the sheet.
The IGT Printability Tester was used to apply the ink, an infrared heat lamp to dry the sample, and the Hunter lab Glossmeter to measure the gloss. …
