A Survey Of Computer Use In Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Sites, Martha E. Parks
A Survey Of Computer Use In Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Sites, Martha E. Parks
Masters Theses
Eighty-three Western Michigan University occupational therapy fieldwork sites were surveyed to determine: (a) extent of computer use, (b) diagnostic categories with which computers are used, (c) extent of computer knowledge of registered occupational therapists (OTRs), and (d) adequacy of computer knowledge of fieldwork students. Forty-seven (56.6%) of the 83 surveys were returned. OTRs at 36 (76.6%) of the 47 sites currently use computers. Word processing is the most common way in which these OTRs use computers. The most common clinical use of computers is perceptual/motor assessment and treatment, while the most common research use of computers is for report writing. …
The Causes Of Turnover Among Social Workers, F.M. Loewenberg
The Causes Of Turnover Among Social Workers, F.M. Loewenberg
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
There is general agreement that social worker turnover is not desirable. Yet social work administrators who want to institute changes which might reduce the rate of turnover have little accurate information about the causes of worker mobility -- and without such information, any change activity must be based on a trial-and-error approach. In this study general propositions and hypotheses about social work turnover have been deduced from what is known about worker mobility generally and have been assessed in the light of the available literature on social worker mobility.

Observations On An Emerging Profession, Lincoln J. Fry, Jon Miller
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
This study examines the ranking that rehabilitation counselors received from their colleagues and clients in an alcoholism rehabilitation organization. The findings suggest that organizational power was the major determinant of the favorable ranking rehabilitation counseling received from colleaguest legitimacy appeared to accrue from power, not the reverse. Occupational visibility appeared to account for client ranking while knowledge that a powerless client group was controlled by others was found to be an important dimension of rehabilitation counselor standing with clients. One implication of the study is that the immediate social environments of occupations provide a meaningful place to begin to document …

Lifelong Education For Women: General And Liberal Studies For Women Fulfilling Traditional Social Roles, Gladys S. Kashdin
Perspectives (1969-1979)
Session 8 of the Annual Meeting of the Association for General and Liberal Studies which was held at Michigan State University, October 17 through October 19, 1974.
"From Their Point of View"
General and liberal education has been a major interest in my own life and career. My classroom and social contacts with women in college and adult education reinforced my own conviction that it enhances the quality and style of a woman's life in ways, which defy statistical analysis.
