According to William J. Casey, the past Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and recently appointed Under Secretary of State and Economic Affairs, forecasting should be the first and most important priority of all areas of management and public accounting. Only large institutional investment corporations have had access to such "useful" information when needed. Consequently, large investors are able to make more objective and intelligent investment decisions. A recent study determined that few investment corporations veritably have access to pertinent internal forecasting models. I Preliminaries

The purpose of this dissertation is to extend some classical results on compact and Fredholm operators to the case in which the linear spaces involved are non-archimedean normed linear spaces over a valued field.

In Section I are listed some definitions and basic concepts that are needed for a study of non-archimedean valuation theory. The concepts of tensor products of nonarchimedean Banach spaces over a spherically complete field F, and of the tensor product of operators, are also dealt with in this section.

The proofs of most of the results in Section II are based on the known …

The purpose of this thesis is to indicate the reactions of the paper industry and its associated industries to metrication, standardization, and their effects on the industry. In this thesis a history of the metric system is given. The metric system, as it relates to the paper industry and its associated industries, is discussed. To get direct views on how the paper manufacturers, paper merchants, and printers felt about metrication and standardization a survey was made. From this survey, the questionnaires returned indicated that the majority of the paper manufacturers, paper merchants, and printers were mildly in favor of metrication …

Implications Of Photogeologic Linears In The South Long Lake Area, Alpena And Presque Isle Counties, Michigan, Richard E. Kimmel

There are numerous linear features in Alpena and Presque Isle Counties, Michigan, which are generally visible on aerial photographs. These photolinears trend in two general directions, northeast-southwest and northwest-southeast. These two sets are perpendicular to each other, and represent vector means of two fracture sets.

The development of the photolinears began in Early Devonian. Throughout its history, ground water flowed along underground channels connecting fracture intersections. This underground drainage network is responsible for many of the photolinears. The purpose was to determine if a subject arrangement of easy fiction books, based on the interests of primary-grade children, and denoted by picture symbols, would make the students more satisfied with, and independent in, their book selections, as compared to an author arrangement of easy fiction books.

The study was divided into two parts, the former dealing with the author arrangement and the latter dealing with the subject arrangement. Tally sheets of student subject requests were kept by the librarian in a comparison of the two arrangements.
