Field Testing Of An Instrument For Measuring Educator Knowledge Of Laws Of The State Of Michigan, Barbara A. Souve

Dissertations

Social Justice Vs Criminal Justice: An Agenda For Critical Criminology, T. R. Young Sep 1985

Social Justice Vs Criminal Justice: An Agenda For Critical Criminology, T. R. Young

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

This paper presents an overview of the features of crime and the criminal justice system in the United States. It notes the great disparities in use of five systems of justice. It discusses the amount and variety of corporate crime, political crime, street crime, white collar crime as well as organized crime. It emphasizes the inadequacy of current theories of crime in so far as corporate, white collar and political crime are concerned. The author argues that social justice is a far better way to prevent crime than are criminal justice systems and points to other societies with low crime …

Third Century Urbanization In Northern Britain, Brent L. Coates Aug 1985

Third Century Urbanization In Northern Britain, Brent L. Coates

Masters Theses

Although this growth of urban centers brought peace and prosperity to a once troubled area, there is no written record that documents this success. Ancient authors considered Britain a rebellious province and unsafe to visit, thus limiting the information they recorded. The second century provides sufficient written information to describe the growing change of the north from a military province, but the archaeological information dated to the third century is needed to …

The Trend In Canopy Composition In A Young Mesic Forest, Zhenchang Li Aug 1985

The Trend In Canopy Composition In A Young Mesic Forest, Zhenchang Li

Masters Theses

Brewer Woods, a young disturbed mesic sugar maple-beech (Acer saccharum-Fagus grandifolia) forest in Kalamazoo Co., Michigan, was investigated by point-quarter and transition matrix methods. The results indicate that this forest is dominated by sugar maple in both canopy and understory composition. Beech is the second most important species. Fourteen species were found as canopy trees or replacements. The hypothesis that a young forest is more diverse than comparable climax forests such as Warren Woods and Hueston Woods was supported. Its successional trend is that sugar maple will become more abundant at the expense of the other species. Beech is a …
