The Effect Of Structure On The Stiffness Of Cylinder Board, Nelson D. Woodruff
The Effect Of Structure On The Stiffness Of Cylinder Board, Nelson D. Woodruff
Paper Engineering Senior Theses
The purpose of this thesis was to study the effect of board structure on the stiffness of cylinder board. This area was chosen as stiffness is one of the most important attributes of cylinder board and the literature survey revealed that very little work has been done in this area.
A new method for making multi-ply boards in the laboratory was developed. These boards were made in the British Sheet Machine under constant head and avoided the problems associated with wet-pressing individual plies together. This method was found to give reproduceable results.
At certain compositions, multi-ply boards made with kraft …

Faculty Contributions (1950-1981)
Faculty Publications 1957-61 is the first major compilation of the publications of the faculty of Western Michigan University. Compilations like this one are not unique. Nearly all the major universities, as well as many of the smaller institutions of higher education, have prepared them for a number of years. It seemed reasonable, when the enterprise was first planned, for Western Michigan University to publish the compilation as one of the Faculty Contributions of the School of Graduate Studies.

Mental Content And Its Relationship To Flexibility Of Reading, Homer L.J. Carter, Dorothy J. Mcginnis
Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
If reading performance is to vary as to kind and degree and especially if rate of reading and the newer media of instruction are to be stressed, a greater emphasis must be placed upon mental content and its relationship to the reading process. For example, in the sentence "The whipple-tree and traces were seriously damaged," little meaning can be secured without adequate mental content. An increased span of perception provides limited help. Contextual clues are of little value. Structural analysis furnishes little aid, and a rapid rate of reading complicates the whole attempt to secure understanding. There must be mental …

Masters Theses
Preface
America has attained a stature in economic life that is unique in modern times in the congregation of the nation of the world.
Undoubtedly American business enterprise, with its titans of industry, has been highly responsible in building up the stature of the United States of America.
But on the horizon of the American business world in recent years there has been gerenewed search for proper goals, values, objectives, and philosophies. The result of this renewed examination of values is the development of an American Business Apologetic. The critical issue before the American business world is "business-is-business--or is it?" …
