Concise Abstraction: J.D. Salinger, Michael J. Durkin
Honors Theses
The works of J, D. Salinger have progressed in several ways from his earliest published works. The subject matter has changed in an attempt to meet the purposes of the author, and I believe that these stales or purposes of the author fit into four main groups—the observer, the philosopher, the preacher, and the mystic.

The Teacher's Role In Liberal Education, James Redfield
The Teacher's Role In Liberal Education, James Redfield
Perspectives (1969-1979)
Liberal Education does not concern itself with the process by which people come to be able to do what is required of them; liberal education is the process by which people come to be excellent. Servile education makes a man useful to other people; liberal education makes him satisfactory to himself.

Is Lip Movement Really So Bad?, Blanche Phyllis Zink
Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
Few issues concerned with the complex art of teaching reading have remained controversial for as long as the topic of lip movement during silent reading. Educators do not seem to be in agreement concerning this phenomenon which most teachers in the elementary school have observed. Some reading specialists support the theory that lip movement may be an aid to comprehension in the lower grades, but that it may be a deterrent to comprehension in the intermediate grades. General Education: An Essay In Definition*, Edward B. Blackman
Perspectives (1969-1979)
Thus by indirection we have arrived at a kind of definition of general or liberal education:25 indispensable knowledge, regardless of one's specialty, of the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities; the cumulative and the non-cumulative; the rational, the emotional, the spiritual, the mystical; fidelity and art; the real and the fanciful; the solemn and the sportive; self-discipline and the anarchic-the whole great range of human knowledge and feeling and character and action in the broadest horizons above and in the narrowest of crevices below, not mastered to be sure, but richly sampled.

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
Several years ago while driving through Scotland, I saw boys and girls neatly dressed in their school uniforms with book-bags over their shoulders, obviously on their way to school. The thought occurred to me that it would be very interesting to know how children in other parts of the world were being taught. This year when my husband was invited to direct an alumni world tour during the spring term, I decided this was the chance of a lifetime to incorporate into the trip a study in comparative education.
