Keeping Love Alive: Communication Modes, Relational Satisfaction And Communication Satisfaction In Long-Distance Dating Relationships, Taylor Hillard
Keeping Love Alive: Communication Modes, Relational Satisfaction And Communication Satisfaction In Long-Distance Dating Relationships, Taylor Hillard
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Couples in long-distance dating relationships (LDDRs) must determine how to best communicate with one another to maintain their relationship without the advantage of being geographically close. Fortunately, with advances in technology, individuals in LDDRs have multiple options regarding how they choose to communicate with their relational partner. These individuals may utilize more traditional modes, such as letter writing or phone calls, or more modern modes, such as text messaging or social media. However, not all of these communication modes may allow for satisfying communication or communication that benefits the relationship. Therefore, this study investigates how the frequency of use of …

Increasing Student Engagement Through Opportunities To Respond, Todd Whitney, Justin T. Cooper, Amy S. Lingo
Kentucky Teacher Education Journal: The Journal of the Teacher Education Division of the Kentucky Council for Exceptional Children
The evidence for providing sufficient opportunities for students to respond (OTR) has been established in terms of increasing student engagement while decreasing disruptive behavior. Although proven to be effective, teachers are demonstrating low rates of OTR across all grade levels and instructional content areas. Given the potential benefits of increasing OTR, it is critical that teachers find ways to increase the provision of OTR during instruction. This article will discuss the research behind providing sufficient OTR, examine the rate of OTR teachers are providing in schools in relation to optimal rates suggested by research, and provide strategies for increasing OTR …

ABSTRACT
Wrist-worn activity monitors are extremely popular among the general population. These monitors are used to track activity for purposes to lose weight, get healthy, improve performance, and other reasons. While many studies have looked at the accuracy of these monitors in individuals without amputations, there has yet to be any that have examined these monitors in …
The Effects Of Foam Rolling On Flexibility, Melissa Moore, Breeanna Gammel, Ariel Reinartz, Adriana Waldo, John D. Smith
The Effects Of Foam Rolling On Flexibility, Melissa Moore, Breeanna Gammel, Ariel Reinartz, Adriana Waldo, John D. Smith
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
Studies have conflicting research based on whether foam rolling shows a significant difference in flexibility with the lower extremities. PURPOSE: To determine if there will be a significant difference in flexibility when using a foam roller compared to a five minute walk. METHODS: On the initial visit 14 participants self-reported their age, weight, and height, and then had their baseline flexibility assessed. Treatment conditions consisted of: 1) using a foam roller on the hamstrings, quadriceps, calves, and lower back, and 2) walking on a treadmill for five minutes. After each session, participant’s flexibility was measured three times with the Sit …
The Effects Of Blood Flow Restriction Training On Vo2max And 1.5 Mile Run Performance, William Ursprung, John D. Smith
The Effects Of Blood Flow Restriction Training On Vo2max And 1.5 Mile Run Performance, William Ursprung, John D. Smith
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
Blood flow restriction (BFR) training is a training strategy involving the use of cuffs or wraps placed around a limb during exercise to maintain arterial inflow to the muscle while preventing venous outflow. Blood flow restriction training with resistance has been shown to improve muscular power, sprinting speed, strength, hypertrophy and endurance. Non-resistance training methods using BFR, such as walking, may increase strength and hypertrophy however the effects on aerobic capacity are less uncertain and the research in this area is limited. Purpose: to evaluate the effects of three weeks of BFR walk training on VO2max, 1.5 …

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Yosef Presburger
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
CLINICAL PRESENTATION & EXAM: Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS), a term first coined by Peet in 1956, is a controversial condition that is difficult to diagnose. Commonly characterized by neck and shoulder pain, TOS occurs due to complex mechanisms involving muscular dysfunction and neurovascular compression. Extremely rare in children, TOS affects young women more than men. Patients with a history of trauma around the thoracic outlet area, as well as people who engage in repetitive muscular activity such as competitive baseball pitchers and swimmers, are at an increased risk of TOS. Cases of TOS are classified as vascular (arterial or …

Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex, David Kassir
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
CLINICAL PRESENTATION & EXAM: In TFCC cases, the patient usually reports injury to the triangular fibrocartilage and pain on the ulnar side of the wrist. This pain is associated to a specific occurrence of falling on an outstretched hand, from a forearm hyper rotation or an axial load and distraction injury to the ulnar boarder of the forearm. This type of falling and acute injury is common in many sports. Pain is especially pronounced when loading the wrist in extension or when supinating/pronating the wrist. In contrast, loading the wrist in a neutral position does not tend to cause …
