Investigating The Student Enrollment Decision At Wku, Alec Brown
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationships between the enrollment decision of first-time, first-year students admitted to Western Kentucky University and the amount of financial aid awarded, as well as demographic information. The Division of Enrollment Management provided a SAS dataset containing various information about all WKU students admitted in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Additionally, information about the 2016 class of admitted students was provided. The data has been analyzed in SAS Enterprise Miner. We performed analysis using decision tree modeling and logistic regression modeling. Results of these two procedures indicated the importance of credit hours earned …

Finding aid for Folklife Archives Project 1098. Collection contains transcripts of video interviews conducted by Brent Björkman in 2013 and 2014 with park rangers from Mammoth Cave National Park. Topics of note within the interviews include the growth of women in the ranks of the ranger service, fiscal challenges faced by the park system, generational traditions, and the virtues of raising a family within the park community. Transcripts are part of a larger project titled "Rangerlore: The Occupational Folklife of Parks," which was created by Björkman after receiving the Archie Green Fellowship from the Library of Congress.

This thesis includes a combination of research and visual arts integration lesson plans. Research covers the benefits of exposure to the visual. Lesson plans were specifically designed for the core content area subjects: English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Each of these lessons was designed to meet local and national standards for the core content area and for visual arts. Additionally, each lesson plan includes a component of art production. Letters, 16 December 1862, 13 February 1863 and 6-7 June 1863, of George Messer to his wife Lottie in DeWitt County, Illinois, written while camped near Woodsonville in Hart County, Kentucky and at Camp Hobson, Glasgow, Kentucky. He describes his quarters (his “shebang”), a fire in Woodsonville that burned two hospitals, the remnants of a nearby battlefield, local troop movements, illness, and his finances. He also writes of contributing money to send a soldier’s remains home, and comments on his officers and on domestic matters.
