Unsigned letter, 31 January 1862, thought to be from William Frazier of the 33rd Indiana Infantry, to a female friend. Writing from Camp Henderson, Kentucky, he sympathizes with her inability to take time from her studies to correspond. He also refers to the weather and his duties as a cook, and mourns the recent deaths of two members of his company.

Finding aid and full-text typescript (Click on "Additional Files" below) for Manuscripts Small Collection 3167. Letter, 31 October 1861, of Samuel J. Williams, 33rd Indiana Infantry, to “friend Lorinda.” From Camp Calvert in Laurel County, Kentucky, he writes of illness among the soldiers and of preparing the camp’s defenses. He also writes of a nervous sentry’s mistaking a tree stump for an intruder, two orders to prepare for battle, and the capture of two Confederates. The letterhead includes an engraving of a flag-bearing woman and the slogan “Onward to Victory!”

Integrating Social Justice Content Into Social Work Education: Making The Abstract Concrete, Simon Funge, Rashida Crutchfield, Lisa Jennings

A national survey of social work educators teaching in CSWE-accredited social work education programs in the U.S. was conducted to explore their perceptions about integrating social justice content into their teaching. A content analysis of written commentary provided by 139 educators revealed four key areas relevant to their efforts: (a) the effect of program mission and integration, (b) the effect of faculty preparation and engagement, (c) the effect of students’ positionality, and (d) the challenge of connecting an abstract concept to concrete practices. Objective –This study asked whether pre-nursing students who took the Nursing 102 (Introduction to Professional Nursing) class, which included information literacy instruction by the Health Sciences Librarian and writing assistance using peer tutors, felt better prepared in basic research skills and a more global understanding of nursing than they did before they took the class. Methods – In Nursing 102, instruction in the skills needed to prepare an APA paper and group presentations on an assigned country were used to increase pre-nursing students’ self-efficacy in basic computer and library skills and global health awareness. Background: The older adult population, age 65 and older, in the United States has increased 30% since 2005 and is projected to continue to grow. Nursing homes have become the living arrangement for some older adults. Nursing home administrators (NHAs) can play a vital role in the long-term care industry. Job satisfaction is important as it can enhance retention of NHAs.Methods: A purposive sample of NHAs was utilized for this descriptive correlational research study to examine job satisfaction. Improving Evidence-Based Practice Skills Of Practicing Registered Nurses, Lora K. Moore

This study evaluated the effect of an educational intervention on improving evidence-based nursing practice (EBP) skills of practicing nurses. In addition, the effects of educational preparation and years of nursing experienced were examined. Using a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design, the Evidence Based Practice Questionnaire (EBPQ) was administered to a convenience sample of registered nurses from a large regional hospital. The experimental group completed an online EBP educational intervention, the first control group completed an alternate unrelated educational intervention, and the second control group was not provided any type of educational intervention. Concern for elephant welfare in zoological facilities has prompted a number of exhibit and management modifications, including those involving enrichment. Knowledge of how these changes impact indicators of welfare, such as elephant movement and behaviour, is crucial for continued improvement of elephant husbandry and care. The present study used observations and GPS-collected data to determine the effects of available space and food presentation on the walking distance and behaviour of thirteen African elephants (Loxodonta africana), which had a dominance structure ascertained by animal care staff at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park (SDZSP).
