Kentucky, following in the footsteps of her parent state, Virginia, has given to America some of her most distinguished statesmen. She gave to the Confederacy its only president, Jefferson Davis, and to the Federal Union its war president, Abraham Lincoln. Housed in a noble pile of imperishable granite, on its exact original site, near Hodgenville, the humble log cabin in which Lincoln was born is now preserved as a national shrine. At Fairview a towering obelisk marks the birthplace of Jefferson Davis.

A Comparative Histological Study Of The Eyes Of Certain Cave Animals, William Owsley

As early as 1850 many reports of observations of the blind cave animals were made by both scientific and popular writers. Tellkempf, Agassiz, Forbes and Silliman were some of the earlier scientists who studied the eyes of cave animals. Eigenmann made a histological study of the cave vertebrates of America. In a study of Forbesichthys papilliferus, a semi-blind cave fish, Jennie Miller Orr found important structural modifications in the eyes of this species. Since no comparative histological studies of the eyes of cave animals seem to have been made, it was decided to make such a study with a view …

A paper written for Economics 310 at Western Kentucky Teachers College.

My aim in this study is to present in a brief manner the economic and social status of the community or school district in which I live. My data have been collected through observations over a period of twenty years and contacts made with the people of this district, through conferences with those much older than I, from records and reports of others, and a house to house canvass of the district. The pictures, illustrating certain features, were made during the spring of 1935.
