The Colonelette (May 1977), Department Of Library Special Collections May 1977

The Colonelette (May 1977), Department Of Library Special Collections

The Colonelette

On September 22, 1949, Shirley Cupp, Irma Beisel, Frances Stuckey and Mr. Hilary Bufton Jr. met in a coffee shop in downtown Kansas City to incorporate the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Jean Fulkerson helped start The Kentucky Colonels Chapter on 3 June 1964 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Twenty-six women met at Western Hills Restaurant and elected Linda Sidebottom as the first president. Besides providing professional development opportunities for local businesswomen, the Chapter gave scholarships to women furthering their education, and held social and recognition events throughout the year. Their newsletter, “The Colonelette,” was started in June 1964. Also included …

Comparison Of Iron Supplements For The Prevention Of Anemia In Young Pigs, Steve Hieronymus

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Crete Koate® product originally intended to be utilized for absorbing excess moisture and reducing knee abrasions of baby pigs raised in confinement, was tested as a hematinic for young pigs. Four treatments were studied: (1) T-NI, pigs receiving no iron; (2) T-IS, pigs receiving a 2 ml intramuscular injection of iron-dextran at 2 days of age; (3) T-CK, pigs raised in pens treated daily with Crete Koate; (4) T-ISCK, pics receiving an intramuscular injection of iron-dextran on day 2 whose pens received daily treatments of Crete Koate. Hemoglobin levels were used as an indicator of iron status in the …

United States Foreign Policy Toward China In Transition: 1966-1976, Chang Sheng-Ih May 1977

United States Foreign Policy Toward China In Transition: 1966-1976, Chang Sheng-Ih

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This study analyzes United States foreign policy toward Communist China in the transitional period since 1966, based on the American China experts' writings in journals dealing with international affairs and their views expressed in Congressional hearings. The contents explain the changing of American policy toward China from "containment without isolation" toward a rapprochement with Peking and progress toward normalization. The achievement of normalization has been a basic policy goal of the United States and has received bipartisan support, but the formula to accomplish normalization still remains obscure, due mainly to the settlement of the "Taiwan question."

The essay includes four …

A Folkloric Perspective On Traditional Auctioneering, Daniel Steed Jr. May 1977

A Folkloric Perspective On Traditional Auctioneering, Daniel Steed Jr.

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

To date, the auction as a type of folklore performance has not been adequately researched. In order to place auctions in perspective as folklore, chapter one of this thesis reviews the history of auctions in the United States. Chapter one further presents the idea of the auctioneer as a folk occupational specialist. The second chapter is concerned with the skills of an active Kentucky auctioneer, who offers, during a series of interviews, insights concerning his performance skills. The third, and final, chapter attempts to construct a theoretical base for researching auctions as folklore performance. The criteria by which any given …

Computer Simulation Of The Rotational Spectrum Of A Symmetric Top Molecule, W. Scott Wells May 1977

Computer Simulation Of The Rotational Spectrum Of A Symmetric Top Molecule, W. Scott Wells

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Given the proper equations and the appropriate set of selection rules, a computer can be programmed to simulate the spectrum of a molecule. This study deals with the rotational spectrum of a symmetric top molecule. The program itself was written in several subroutine blocks. By doing this the computing time was reduced by 70% over similar programs.

The program can be used to simulate the spectrum of a molecule if the transition polarization type and the rotational constants are known. However, if the type of transition polarization or constants is unknown, the program can be used as a tool for …

An Empirical Consideration Of The Effects Of Embourgeoisement & Proletarianization, Lawrence Haffner May 1977

An Empirical Consideration Of The Effects Of Embourgeoisement & Proletarianization, Lawrence Haffner

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

In the past decade, much has been written about the possibility that stratification hierarchies of industrial societies are being transformed from traditional pyramid-like structures into diamond-shaped structures which have a large "middle mass." It has been hypothesized and/or assumed that this transformation and blurring of class lines is occurring through the embourgeoisement of skilled blue collar workers and/or the proletarianization of lower-level white collar workers. This thesis provides an empirical test for the hypothesis that if embourgeoisement and/or proletarianization are occurring, these processes in actuality are affecting additional strata diversification and possible relative realignment of the strata to each other …

Personality Variables Of United States Auto Club Sprint Car Drivers, Jerry Nowicke May 1977

Personality Variables Of United States Auto Club Sprint Car Drivers, Jerry Nowicke

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The personality profile of 25 United States Auto Club sprint car drivers was compared to the previously established profile compiled by Dr. Keith Johnsgard, Dr. Bruce Ogilvie, and Kenneth Merrit on 30 highly successful Formula I and Sports Car Club of America sports car drivers using the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS) as the instrument of differentiation. Although no statistical significance was attached to the difference between means of the two groups due to a lack of variance estimates for the 15 scales that comprise the EPPS regarding the sports car driving group, quite similar scores were obtained on 13 …
