Communication Apprehension In Problem-Solving Dyads, James Harris
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of communication apprehension and sex on task efficiency, satisfaction, liking, and trust following a dyadic problem-solving situation. The experimental design was a h x 3 analysis of variance determined by the level of communication apprehension (high-low) and by the sex of the dyads (male-male, male-female, female-female). The results indicated that the high communication apprehensive dyads had significantly less task efficiency, less satisfaction, less liking, and less trust than the low apprehensive dyads. Further, male-male dyads had significantly more satisfaction and significantly less trust than the female-female dyads.

A Study Of Achievement & Attitude Change In Seventh Grade Science Students At Sky Haven Elementary School, Dekalb County, Georgia, Using The Lecture-Demonstration-Recitation Method & The Discovery Method Of Teaching, Leslie Mcintosh
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Because of the need for people to be scientifically literate in today's technological world, this researcher questioned whether the seventh grade students at the Sky Haven Elementary School, DeKalb County, Georgia, were learning basic science concepts in the most effective manner.
The purpose of this study was to compare the lecture-demonstration-recitation method (experimental treatment) and the discovery method (control treatment) of teaching science in the seventh grade to determine which method of instruction would result in greater student achievement and improved attitude towards science.
The sample consisted of 42 students of comparable ability (21 in each group) most of whom …

A Folkloristic Approach To Storytelling Performances By A Contemporary Librarian, Victoria Middleswarth
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The subject of this study is Thelma Freeman, the children's librarian at the Bowling Green Public Library. Mrs. Freeman has worked for the library for fourteen years, beginning in 1964 as a bookmobile driver and later transferring into the library building as children's librarian. The story hour on which this study centers was instituted in 1967 when Mrs. Freeman became the Bowling Green Library's first children's librarian. Although she probably acquired her storytelling art through observation and adoption of her mother's storytelling technique and through experience with her children and grandchildren, Mrs. Freeman also took an undergraduate-level library science course …

Conscience & Determinism: Mark Twain's Attempt To Resolve The Problem Of Man's Sense Of Moral Responsibility In A Deterministic World, R. Kathleen Raisor
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Beneath the placid surface of books such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, there are the seeds of a darker, yet more profound Twain than a cursory reading yields. From a point beginning about 1876 until his death in 1910, there is in Twain's major works a progressively darker, more intensely pessimistic view of the human condition, for Twain increasingly saw man as circumscribed and imprisoned by mechanistic determinism. This study provides a chronological examination of Twain's attempt to resolve the problem of man's sense of moral responsibility in a deterministic world. The development …
