The Relationship Among Parent Knowledge Of Special Education, Assertiveness, And Participation In Planning Their Handicapped Child’S Educational Program, Lynne Faxon Croxton
The Relationship Among Parent Knowledge Of Special Education, Assertiveness, And Participation In Planning Their Handicapped Child’S Educational Program, Lynne Faxon Croxton
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This study addressed the relationship among parent assertiveness, parent knowledge of special education and the handicapping condition of their child, and parent participation in the annual meeting of the School-Based Admissions and Release Committee (SBARC). Fifty-one (51) parents of learning disabled and mentally handicapped children in a suburban area of Kentucky participated in the study. The effects of the child’s handicapping condition and the number of years the child’s handicapping condition and the number of years the child had received special education on parent assertiveness, knowledge, and participation were also analyzed. Parents were given the Special Education Knowledge Survey, and …
In Vitro Glucose Utilization In Ob/Ob Mouse Erythocytes & Adipose Tissue, Peggy Fudge
In Vitro Glucose Utilization In Ob/Ob Mouse Erythocytes & Adipose Tissue, Peggy Fudge
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
An in vitro study of ob/ob mouse and control mouse erythrocytes and adipose tissue showed a difference in the rate of glucose utilization as determined by the production of 3H20. In both ob/ob and control erythrocytes, glucose utilization increased as glucose concentration of the medium was increased, although the ob/ob rate was consistently lower than the control. The similar trend except for the adipose tissues showed a ob/ob adipose tissue at 200 mg/d1 glucose concentration which exhibited a rate less than the rate at 100 mg/d1.
The decreased glucose utilization by adipose tissue in the absence of …

The Colonelette
On September 22, 1949, Shirley Cupp, Irma Beisel, Frances Stuckey and Mr. Hilary Bufton Jr. met in a coffee shop in downtown Kansas City to incorporate the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Jean Fulkerson helped start The Kentucky Colonels Chapter on 3 June 1964 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Twenty-six women met at Western Hills Restaurant and elected Linda Sidebottom as the first president. Besides providing professional development opportunities for local businesswomen, the Chapter gave scholarships to women furthering their education, and held social and recognition events throughout the year. Their newsletter, “The Colonelette,” was started in June 1964. Also included …

Studies On The Binding Of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin To Polystyrene & A Possible Application, Patrick Mowers
Studies On The Binding Of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin To Polystyrene & A Possible Application, Patrick Mowers
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), labeled with 125I, was used to study the binding properties of hCG to polystyrene beads. The binding capacity of the 0.25-in diameter beads was determined to be approximately 300 mIU/bead. The affinity constant, K, was determined to be essentially O, suggesting that binding is strictly passive. The binding of hCG to polystyrene was proportional to the hCG concentration and temperature. There were highly significant (p<0.001) differences among amounts of hCG bound at 3 C, 25 C and 37 C. There was a highly significant (p<0.001) relationship between the amount of hCG bound and the initial hCG concentration. There did not appear to be any correlation between the percentage of hCG bound and the initial hCG concentration. Attempts to use Staphylococcal Protein A-peroxidase conjugate to detect murine monoclonal antibodies to beta-hCG were not successful.
Impact Of Several Chemical And Physical Properties Of Two H-Coal Recycle Solvent Streams On Their Relative Solvent Quality, Joe Collins
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purpose of this study was to follow the solvent quality curve of the recycle solvent streams of the H-Coal Pilot Plant run by Ashland Petroleum Company at Catlettsburg, Kentucky. This was done with the use of a microautoclave (shaker-bomb liquefaction unit). Several physical and chemical properties of these recycle oils were determined, and these values were correlated with the observed solvent quality. It is shown that the relative, solvent quality of these recycle oils correlate well with many of the chemical and some of the physical properties determined in this study.
The Role Of Depression In College Student Attrition, Jeffrey Feix
The Role Of Depression In College Student Attrition, Jeffrey Feix
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This study investigated the relationship between clinical depression and college GPA, which has been shown to be directly related to college student attrition. Scores on the Depression scale of the MMPI (MMPI-D) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were collected from 33 students on academic probation (AP) and 36 students in good standing (GS). All scores were standardized and the mean of the standardized scores on both inventories was computed for each subject. The AP and GS group means were compared using the t-test on the raw scores of both inventories as well as the means of the standardized scores. …
Use Of Ft-Ir And Nmr Spectra Of The Thf Extracts Of Mid-Rank Bituminous Coals To Predict Plasticity, Samuel Adesoji Irefin
Use Of Ft-Ir And Nmr Spectra Of The Thf Extracts Of Mid-Rank Bituminous Coals To Predict Plasticity, Samuel Adesoji Irefin
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Plasticity, which typically develops at 380-420°C, is a unique property of mid-ranked coals. The phenomenon of plasticity in coals has been known for a long time but is still poorly understood. Even among coals of identical subrank and chemical composition, large differences in plastic behavior are commonly encountered. Plastic coals go through a softening and swelling state upon heating before they resolidify. Concurrent with the plastic state of the coal, thermal decomposition of the coal takes place.
The coking ability of a coal can be directly related to the plasticity of the coal. In liquefaction reactions, plastic coals tend to …

The Masculine Mind In The Portrait Of A Lady, Nora Neagle
The Masculine Mind In The Portrait Of A Lady, Nora Neagle
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The strongest and best-developed supporting characters in The Portrait of a Lady are the men in Isabel Archer's life: Ralph Touchett, Caspar Goodwood, Lord Warburton, and Gilbert Osmond. Because it is largely through the eyes of these men that the reader sees Isabel, a thorough understanding of their personalities is essential for a clear interpretation of Isabel.
James shows the four men in vivid detail--their physical appearance, cultural background, intellect, moral convictions, sense of humor--everything from a habit of keeping hallas in pockets to having a wardrobe which seems to have come from a single bolt of cloth. This study …

The Nature Of Supported Co-Mo And Ni-W And Hydrodenitrogenation And Hydrodesulfurization Of Model Compounds, Eric Dadey
The Nature Of Supported Co-Mo And Ni-W And Hydrodenitrogenation And Hydrodesulfurization Of Model Compounds, Eric Dadey
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The catalytic vapor-phase isomerization, hydrogenolysis, and/or disproportionation of trimethylbenzen (TMB) over Co-Mo/Al2O3 and Ni-W/Al2O3 was studied at 480°C, 400 psi reactor pressure, and a constant H2 flow. Each catalyst was run in the reduced or sulfided form. The results show a marked difference in the product distributions for each catalyst, which is attributed to differences in the catalysts’ acidities.
The hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) of quinolone and the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) of benzothiophene were also studied. The compounds were reacted in a 1 liter autoclave at 325°C and varying partial pressures of H2. The …

The Relationship Between Rating Strategy And Accuracy Of Performance Rating, Richard Carter
The Relationship Between Rating Strategy And Accuracy Of Performance Rating, Richard Carter
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Given the recent theoretical emphasis on the process of performance rating (e.g., Landy & Farr, 1980), a test of the suggestion that better raters may use different rating processes than poorer raters was implemented. Specifically, this study was designed to determine if more accurate raters use a systematically different rating strategy than less accurate raters. Accuracy, the proximity of a rating to the ratee’s true score, was operationalized by differential accuracy (Cronbach, 1955), while rating strategies were determined through a policy capturing method (e.g., Zedeck & Kafry, 1977).
Seventh-three subjects rated a series of videotapes, developed by Borman (e.g. Borman, …
