Recreation Needs Of Pre-Adolescent Girls In Selected Public Schools, Michael Aune Aug 1977

Recreation Needs Of Pre-Adolescent Girls In Selected Public Schools, Michael Aune

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

There was a need to determine the recreation needs of girls in the pre-adolescent age range of nine through fourteen years old so that municipal recreation professionals may program activities to meet the desires of this specific population. In order to do this, a testing instrument was developed. The test, a recreation preference schedule, used closed questions exclusively, unlike many of the available checklist surveys. The recreation preference schedule was modeled after the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule that was used in counseling. The new test, containing one hundred questions, utilized ten recreation activity categories. It was checked for reliability and …

The Relationship Between Number Of Sessions And Client-Judged Outcome, Jay Athy Aug 1977

The Relationship Between Number Of Sessions And Client-Judged Outcome, Jay Athy

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Outpatient clients from a community mental health center were surveyed by questionnaire to examine the relationship between number of therapy sessions attended and client-judgments of therapeutic outcome. The results indicated that client-judgments of therapeutic benefit tended to be independent of length of therapy when the client-judgement is a global assessment of therapeutic benefit. Controls for mode of therapy, initial diagnosis, type of referral, and status of case yielded similar findings. The nature of these relationships was nonlinear with the possible existence of different zones of sessions that account for varying degrees of client-perceived success. It also appeared that clients evaluated …

The Effect Of Parent Education Upon Parental Attitudes Toward Authority, Ruth Meredith

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This study attempted to develop and evaluate the content, format and effectiveness of a parent training course which emphasized democratic child rearing methods. The course was conducted by a school counselor in an elementary school. The content was a combination of Dreikur's child-raising techniques and Gordon's communication skills embodied into a commercial program called Systematic Training for Effective Parenting. The format for each of the nine suggested group sessions began with a leader-introduced topic, followed by large and small group discussions, simulated role play, use of worksheets, handouts, audio-visuals, and homework assignments. Objective evidence of program effectiveness was determined by …

Laterality: Motor Learning & The Non-Dominant Hand, Rella Nase Jul 1977

Laterality: Motor Learning & The Non-Dominant Hand, Rella Nase

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The cultural design of the United States of America has caught up its left-handed individuals in a righthander's world. Daily the left-hander or sinistral is forced to cope with problems which present themselves only to sinistrals, posing no difficulty to right-handers or dextrals. It was the intention of this investigation to determine whether, as a result of this emphasis on dextrality training, sinistrals could more quickly learn motor tasks with the non -dominant hand than could dextrals.

The hypothesis upon which the investigation was founded was stated in null form: no significant difference exists between motor learning displayed by sinistrals …

A Recent History Of Subject Philosophy And Pedagogical Style In Physical Education: A Case Study In Curriculum Change, Kenneth Atkins Jun 1977

A Recent History Of Subject Philosophy And Pedagogical Style In Physical Education: A Case Study In Curriculum Change, Kenneth Atkins

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The Journal of Health, Physical Education and Recreation was subjected to a content analysis for the period 1963-1973 using subject philosophy, pedagogical style, and contributors as the content indicators. The study examines how curriculum change and subject content reflect change and ideology in the wider society. Justifications for teaching physical education have shifted from a traditional emphasis on fitness and character training to education for leisure and lifetime sports and the desirability of self-actualization via movement education. The study argues that those changes parallel a move in the requirements of the social and economic structure, from mass wage labor to …

The Effect Of Cv-1 Cell Geometry On The Ultraviolet Radiation Sensitivity Of Mammalian Cells In Vitro, Daniel J. Knauer Jun 1977

The Effect Of Cv-1 Cell Geometry On The Ultraviolet Radiation Sensitivity Of Mammalian Cells In Vitro, Daniel J. Knauer

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The effect of cell geometry on the radiosensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) light has been studied in the CV-1 host cell-capacity system. In this system the macromolecular damage incurred by monolayers of cells cultures as the result of exposure to UV radiation is monitored by testing the ability of irradiated cells to support the replication of Herpes simplex virus. The target molecule has been shown to be DNA and is centrally located

Mammalian cells have an absolute requirement for Mg++ and Ca++ in order to remain attached to artificial substrata. To test the effect of cell geometry on UV …

A Study Of The Reasons Successful College Freshmen Voluntarily Withdraw From Campbellsville College, Annie Neil

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Samples of successful freshmen students voluntarily withdrawing from Campbellsville College were studied and compared to determine the reasons for leaving the College. It was anticipated that findings would help to identify some of the problems involved in student withdrawal, thus giving the College some better understanding with which to proceed in an effort to build retention.

Forty academically successful freshmen of the class 1974- 75 were surveyed using a questionnaire and telephone and personal interview. These students were grouped in three divisions: (1) those who entered with plans to transfer, (2) those who entered with indefinite plans, and (3) those …
