Cancer Pharmacogenetics, S Marsh, H L Mcleod Jan 2004

Cancer Pharmacogenetics, S Marsh, H L Mcleod

Open Access Publications

The large number of active combination chemotherapy regimens for most cancers has led to the need for better information to guide the 'standard' treatment for each patient. In an attempt to individualise therapy, pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics (a polygenic approach to pharmacogenetic studies) encompass the search for answers to the hereditary basis for interindividual differences in drug response. This review will focus on the results of studies assessing the effects of polymorphisms in drug-metabolising enzymes and drug targets on the toxicity and response to commonly used chemotherapy drugs. In addition, the need for polygenic pharmacogenomic strategies to identify patients at risk …

Classroom Acoustics: Enhancing The Listening Environment Through The Use Of Amplification Systems, Andrea Marie Golfin

Independent Studies and Capstones

This paper discusses the variables affecting classroom acoustics and a case study examination of some local classrooms. Classrooms were measured against proposed American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards and treatment options for improving acoustics are suggested.

Identification Of Issues Encountered By Deaf Educators Working With Multiply Involved Children And The Related Emotional Affects That Go Along With Intervention, Kelly M. Herron Jan 2004

Identification Of Issues Encountered By Deaf Educators Working With Multiply Involved Children And The Related Emotional Affects That Go Along With Intervention, Kelly M. Herron

Independent Studies and Capstones

This paper discusses common issues deaf educators face that are not directly related to a child’s hearing impairment and thus often outside the educators’ area of expertise. The study also identifies a range of emotions early interventionists experience while working with children with multiple impairments.

The Comparison Of Tympanometric Results To Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions, Erika Nicole Knox Jan 2004

The Comparison Of Tympanometric Results To Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions, Erika Nicole Knox

Independent Studies and Capstones

This paper presents a study investigating the relationship between tympanometry measures of the middle ear and Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAE) screening, suggesting that using a combination of the two methods in pediatricians’ offices would result in fewer inappropriate referrals for comprehensive hearing evaluations.

Assessing Phonemic Awareness Skills In Hearing Impaired Students, Christina Marie Borders Jan 2004

Assessing Phonemic Awareness Skills In Hearing Impaired Students, Christina Marie Borders

Independent Studies and Capstones

This paper discusses phonemic awareness and its role in providing appropriate literacy instruction to both hearing and hearing impaired children. The ability of hearing-impaired students to gain phonological awareness skills is examined and instructional models for teaching phonological and phonemic awareness skills are presented. Also included is a checklist to be used to assess phonological and phonemic awareness skills in hearing-impaired students.
