Development Of An Evidence-Based Educational Intervention To Increase Correctional Nurses’ Knowledge Of Mental Health Crisis Management, Jacqueline Parrish
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) educational intervention targeted correctional nurses and aimed to enhance their knowledge of mental health crisis management. Correctional environments often lack training for managing mental health emergencies, which can negatively impact safety. The goal was to increase correctional nurse knowledge of mental health emergency management. The guiding question was whether an educational intervention would increase correctional nurses’ knowledge of mental health crisis management by a minimum of 20% following a structured, evidence-based educational session. A pretest and posttest design was used in the project. A total of 20 participants completed a pretest, posttest and program …

Correlational Study Of Health Checkups And Patient Wellness: Epidemiological Evaluation On Prophylaxis Pathways, Samantha H. Beaubrun
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Health checkups and wellness visits are a vital pathway to early detection and diagnosis of disease. It is not known whether young adults, insured or not, are opting into preventive care services to optimize health status via health checkups/wellness visits at primary care academic health centers. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the relation of wellness visits to healthcare insurance and health status while adjusting for gender among young adults ages 18–35 years in the United States. A descriptive correlational design was used with the 2023 National Health Interview Survey data set (N = 6,544). The results …

First Responder Resiliency With Line Of Duty Critical Incident Exposure, Jennifer Miller
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
First responders' mental health resiliency and distress tolerance following crises and adverse, sporadic, and consistent exposure to critical incidents, such as line-of-duty death, mass casualty incidents, and calls involving children, continues to be a public health challenge in the United States. In this phenomenological study, the role of critical incidents in the overall mental and physical health resiliency of first responders was explored. Resilience theory served as the theoretical perspective for this study. The central research question for this study was to investigate the lived experiences of first responders who have been exposed to critical incidents in the line of …
Exploring Workforce Retention In A Behavioral Health Organization: A Qualitative Study, Meagan Tamara Copelin
Exploring Workforce Retention In A Behavioral Health Organization: A Qualitative Study, Meagan Tamara Copelin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Workforce retention among mental health professionals has been a central focus of scholars as behavioral health systems continue to face chronic staffing instability (Hallett et al., 2024). Researchers have demonstrated that burnout, limited organizational support, and resource misalignment significantly influence turnover in these settings (Maslach & Leiter, 2016; Pulman & Fenge, 2024). However, researchers have not yet established how mental health professionals within a single publicly funded, state-operated behavioral health organization interpret the organizational and cultural factors that influence their decision to remain employed. The purpose of this qualitative single-case study was to explore how mental health professionals in a …

Employers’ Best Practices For Retaining Women Employees With Dual Responsibilities Post-Covid-19 Pandemic: A Multiple Case Study, Wenoka E. Nieves
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The challenges women face with dual responsibilities during a crisis often force them to take on additional or multiple responsibilities at home. The specific research problem is that although researchers have investigated job loss during crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the topic of how employers can retain women with dual responsibilities, caring for their family members in their household and working during crises, has not been explored. The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore the best practices that employers use to retain women employees with dual responsibilities who are caring for their household family members …

The Experience Of Suicidal Ideation In Adults With Adhesive Arachnoiditis, Kathleen J. Haynes
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the United States. Chronic pain has been linked to death by suicide, and a considerable amount of research has examined how conditions that produce chronic pain increase the risk of SI and suicide attempts. The practice-focused question guiding the project was, Will implementing a nursing staff education program impact their knowledge of Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) for depression screening …
Factors Associated With Initial Psychogenic Non Epileptic Seizures (Pnes) Amongst Patients With/Without Epileptic Seizures (Es), Enow Ogork
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Psychogenic nonepileptic seizure (PNES) is an important individual and public health concern, but inconsistent results exist in the literature in terms of the circumstances surrounding the initial occurrence of PNES among patients without a prior diagnosis of epilepsy. The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent patient sex, number of medical comorbidities, sleep deprivation, head injury in the past, and eyes closed during seizures predict initial PNES among patients with or without PNES. The precaution adoption process model provided a framework for exploring how individuals become aware of health risks and decide to adopt preventive behaviors. Secondary …
