Patient Satisfaction And Nurse Communication Pre- And Posthospital Mergers And/Or Acquisitions, Shakeeya Sorrells
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Amid continuing mergers and/or acquisitions (M&As) of their institutions, U.S. hospital leaders have found it challenging to maintain favorable patient satisfaction Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores. The purpose of this quantitative, quasi-experimental study was to explore the correlation between patient satisfaction (identified as the “likelihood to recommend” metric) and “nurse communication” HCAHPS scores pre- and post-hospital M&As. Donabedian’s theoretical framework and triad model of structure, process, and outcomes within health care quality served as the foundation for the evaluation. HCAHPS and 2019 change of hospital ownership data were obtained from the Centers for Medicaid …

Relationship Between Parental Neglect, Socioeconomic Status, And Aggression In Adolescents, Chemarin Eve Boyd
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Aggressive behavior among adolescents poses significant challenges for families, educators, and communities, often stemming from complex interactions between parental behavior and environmental factors. This quantitative nonexperimental study examined the relationship between parental neglect, socioeconomic status (SES), and adolescent aggression, guided by the parental acceptance-rejection theory. Data were collected from 250 parents of adolescents age 12-18 divided into two groups: those reporting no to low levels of aggression and those reporting moderate to high levels. Binary logistic regression was employed to predict the likelihood of adolescent aggression based on parental neglect (categorical) and SES (scale). The results demonstrated that parental neglect …

The transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) population faces barriers when seeking healthcare and perceived employment inequities for simply identifying as their gender identity. This study examined the relationships between non-affirmation of gender identity, healthcare stereotype threat, and perceived employment inequities for TGD people across the United States. The purpose of this quantitative, retrospective, quasi-experimental study was to determine if there was a relationship between non-affirmation of gender identity, healthcare stereotype threat, and perceived employment inequities. This study was guided by the sexual citizenship theory devised by T.H. Marshall, which examines three elements of the model: (a) civil society, (b) political society, …
Pressure Of The Past: How Recalling Ostracism Influences Risk And Benefit Perception, Joseph Newton, Ulrich Von Hecker
Pressure Of The Past: How Recalling Ostracism Influences Risk And Benefit Perception, Joseph Newton, Ulrich Von Hecker
Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
The affect heuristic suggests that emotional responses significantly influence perceptions of risk and benefit. We extend this model to test how recalling ostracism affects these perceptions across financial, health, and social domains, and test how time pressure moderates these effects. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two conditions: recalling either a time they were ostracized (ostracism condition) or included (inclusion condition), followed by evaluating risk and benefit scenarios under time pressure or no time pressure. While a growing body of evidence has linked ostracism to increases in risky decision-making, we found that recalling ostracism led to domain-specific, bi-directional changes …

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
Our goal in this study was to examine the effect of a social cognitive intervention aimed at improving appropriate antibiotic use self-efficacy (AAUSE). The intervention incorporated several aspects of self-efficacy theory, including mastery, vicarious learning, and verbal persuasion. To test the effectiveness of the intervention, we used two comparison conditions—reading a pamphlet focused on antibiotic resistance (ABR) or one focused on general health (diet, physical activity, sleep). A total of 226 undergraduate students completed the study, which involved completing a series of questions/questionnaires at time 1 (preintervention), engaging in the intervention (or reading a pamphlet), and then completing the time …

Effective knowledge management is vital for organizational success. However, challenges in knowledge gaps arise when key individuals depart from their respective organizations and there is no effective knowledge management system. This study was an exploration of the nuanced relationship among trust, tacit knowledge sharing, and job satisfaction in the life insurance industry. Trust, job satisfaction, and tacit knowledge sharing are critical components in organizational dynamics. Tacit knowledge sharing is difficult to codify, and employees might be motivated to share their know-how on the basis of anticipated benefits and reciprocal interactions. On the other hand, research that explores the relationship between …
