Human Service Professionals’ Experiences Using Mindfulness-Based Interventions To Support Depression And Suicidal Ideation Treatment, Luke Oluwadamilare Joseph
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Depression and suicide ideation are mental health disorders that have seen a sharp increase recently and impact the global population, with adverse effects on the public health of the entire United States. Researchers have shown that mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) are an evolving phenomenon used in addressing common mental challenges, such as depression and suicide, resulting in improved psychosocial and psychological stability. The purpose of this generic study was to explore the experiences of human service professionals (HSPs) who use MBI to support clients with depression and suicidal ideation in Chicago. Seven purposively sampled HSPs were the participants in the study. …

Predictors Of Complementary Alternative Medicine Usage Among Diabetic Adults In The United States, Erlina Kearse-Lewis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Available data for the last two decades have shown that the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is increasing, with users including adult diabetics around the world. There is not a strong consensus concerning the influence of socioeconomic factors on the use of CAM by adult diabetics. The purpose of this retrospective cross-sectional study was to examine the use of CAM among U.S. adults 21 years and older diagnosed with diabetes and whether income influences the use of CAM among adult diabetics after adjusting for age, gender, and location. Cross-sectional data from the 2017 National Health Interview Survey represented …

Mexican American Men Who Have Sex With Men: Cultural Factors And Substance Use, Michael L. Garcia
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Research has shown substance use affects sexual minority communities disproportionately. Studies have shown when individuals are part of ethnic or sexual minority groups, negative attitudes and risk behaviors that can lead to substance use are experienced at a greater scale compared to their majority counterparts. There have not been significant investigations regarding relationships between cultural values and sexual and ethnic minority subpopulations within the United States. The purpose of this quantitative study was to identify relationships between religion, family structure, traditional gender roles, and substance use in terms of Mexican American men who have sex with men (MAMSM) populations. This …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
An estimated 1.6 to 3.8 million concussions occur annually in the United States, and 42 million concussions occur annually worldwide, making concussions one of the most frequent injuries among all athletes at all levels. Research in detecting the relationship between generalized anxiety and concussions in ice hockey players from all professional ranks was lacking. The purpose of this quantitative study was to determine whether professional ice hockey players experienced a form of generalized anxiety when they returned to play following a severe concussion. The intolerance of uncertainty model detailed anxiety regarding fear and anticipation of the unknown or future uncertainty …
Early Childhood Educators’ Perceptions Of Practicum And Its Relationship To Self-Efficacy In Teaching, Terri Gray Johnson
Early Childhood Educators’ Perceptions Of Practicum And Its Relationship To Self-Efficacy In Teaching, Terri Gray Johnson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Limited research exists on the factors that contribute to community college students’ development of self-efficacy (SE) while serving as preservice teachers (PSTs) during their early childhood education (ECE) practicum. This lack of research is concerning because educators who have high SE enhance the educational well-being of all children. The purpose of this study was to understand the experiences in practicum that early childhood educators perceive contribute to the development of SE among PSTs. The conceptual framework was derived from Bandura’s theory of SE. The focus of the research questions was on understanding the development of SE during practicum experiences and …
Preparing For The Next Pandemic: Helpful Strategies For Hospital Managers, Lynesha Sweeney
Preparing For The Next Pandemic: Helpful Strategies For Hospital Managers, Lynesha Sweeney
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
During the rapid spread of the coronavirus in 2020, some hospital managers lacked strategies to support and treat the number of patients falling ill daily. Effective strategies to support and treat patients during the next pandemic are important to hospital managers because insufficient access to quality healthcare services can be harmful to community citizens and detrimental to hospital sustainability. Grounded in the resource-based theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore strategies some hospital managers have created and implemented to be prepared for future pandemics within their facilities. The participants were six healthcare leaders working in roles …

The incidence of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is on the rise, particularly among adults aged 18 years and older. Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels are commonly used by healthcare professionals to assess glucose variability; fluctuations are associated with an increased risk of adverse effects. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of self-directed management of HbA1c levels through telehealth. The purpose of this retrospective quantitative study was to investigate the effectiveness of self-directed management of HbA1c levels using telehealth among T2DM diagnosed adults at a community health service organization in the northeastern U.S. from December 2018 to 2022. The Relationship Between New Jersey Primary Teachers’ Perceptions Of One-To-One Device Programs And Their Stage Of Adoption, Frances Amato
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Interest in one-to-one (1:1) device programs, where schools provide each student with their own computing device, has increased across the United States. The problem this study addressed was whether primary teachers’ perceived usefulness, ease of use, organizational support, and technical support of a 1:1 device program is related to their reported stage of adoption. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the relationship between primary school teachers’ perceptions of a 1:1 device program and their self-reported stage of adoption. The theoretical framework guiding the study included the diffusion of innovations theory and the technology acceptance model. Data were …
