The Impact Of Counselor Educators’ Unprofessional Behavior On Students, Kristin Alyssa Dolph
The Impact Of Counselor Educators’ Unprofessional Behavior On Students, Kristin Alyssa Dolph
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Current research into Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited counseling programs has provided data that counselor educators and supervisors (CESs) who conduct themselves in an unprofessional manner affect their colleagues, peers, and students. Although there is an existing problem of unprofessionalism impacting students, there is a dearth of information on this exploration through a qualitative lens. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive phenomenological study was to describe the lived experiences of counseling students impacted by their CESs displaying unprofessional behaviors. Participants were master’s-level counseling students in a brick and mortar CACREP-accredited program who were either …

Staff Education To Increase Confidence And Knowledge Of Workplace Violence In The Outpatient Mental Health Setting, Agnelyne Afugmeyig Ndifor
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Mental health care providers are often faced with difficult situations and frequently encounter patients that may exhibit violent or aggressive behavior. Without adequate training and knowledge to manage these situations, there is a risk of harm and a threat to safety for nurses and office staff. Many hospitals and inpatient psychiatric providers provide training and educational modules to educate staff on how to prepare for and manage these situations, but there is not much research about staff confidence in preventing and managing violent or aggressive patients in the outpatient setting. The practice gap that I analyzed in this project was …

Counselors’ Lived Experiences Supporting Emerging Adults With Psychiatric Disorders Secure Competitive Employment, Cheryl Lakisha Andrews
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Transitioning from childhood to adulthood is a challenging life experience, further intensified for individuals with psychiatric disorders. While strong social support serves as a key resilience factor, emerging adults with psychiatric disorders face unique challenges in addition to those encountered by their peers. This population is at heightened risk for adverse outcomes, including difficulty securing employment, a critical milestone for adult independence. Counselors play a pivotal role in supporting these individuals but often report feelings of inadequacy and reluctance to engage with this complex developmental stage. This qualitative hermeneutic phenomenology study explores the lived experiences of counselors who assist emerging …

The purpose of this research is to assess how teachers perceive the integration of reading strategies in core content areas and the impact of professional development on their teaching practices. The conceptual framework used to guide this study was the social cognitive theory of self-efficacy, which suggests that teachers' beliefs in their abilities to implement effective strategies …
Symptoms Of Academic Burnout In Associate Degree Nursing Students, Laura J. Witherspoon
Symptoms Of Academic Burnout In Associate Degree Nursing Students, Laura J. Witherspoon
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Academic burnout may contribute to high attrition in associate degree nursing (ADN) students because academic burnout affects academic success, causes physical and mental health problems, and decreases self-esteem. Academic burnout may be more prevalent in ADN students because ADN programs are shorter but more intense. The purpose of this study, guided by Maslach’s multidimensional theory of burnout, was to examine the relationship between time in the ADN program and symptoms of academic burnout in nursing student participants and the difference in academic burnout among the four semesters in the ADN students. Maslach’s Burnout Inventory-General survey for students was emailed to …
A Rank-Order Alternative For Non-Parametric Analysis With The General Linear Model, Jeffry White
A Rank-Order Alternative For Non-Parametric Analysis With The General Linear Model, Jeffry White
Journal of Educational Research and Practice
Violations of normality and homogeneity are common in educational data. When this occurs, the use of parametric statistics may be inappropriate. A generalized form of nonparametric analyses based on the Puri and Sen L statistic provides an alternative approach. Using a chi-square distribution, this technique is easy to apply and has significant power. Another advantage of the L statistic is its utility to link nonparametric tests with their parametric counterparts. After rank-ordering and analyzing the data, an adjustment is made by calculating L instead of relying on the parametric test statistic. This permits the researcher to choose between parallel strategies …

Attachment-Based Intervention For Inattention, Hyperactivity, And Impulsivity: Does Relationship Matter?, Stephanie M. Ess
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
While the prevailing notion attributes attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) largely to a genetic response, there is increasing evidence of its multifactorial nature, involving both genetic and environmental factors, including the parent–child attachment relationship. Given the limitations of pharmacological and behavioral treatment methods, this study addressed the critical need for alternative ADHD interventions. The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity among toddlers approximately 48 months old in an attachment-based intervention group (n = 63), a control intervention group (n = 58), and a low-risk group not requiring intervention (n = 52). Grounded …
