Planned Behavior And Congolese Physicians’ Practice: Predicting Advanced Preventive Health Services Provision, Jean-Clément Milabu Mumbusi
Planned Behavior And Congolese Physicians’ Practice: Predicting Advanced Preventive Health Services Provision, Jean-Clément Milabu Mumbusi
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The provision of preventive services, health promotion, and health maintenance has become the cornerstone of primary care practice in the United States and other Western countries to prevent morbidity and premature mortality and to increase the quality and years of a healthy life. Unfortunately, the delivery of these advanced preventive health services (APHS) has been sporadic in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country with poor health indicators. The purpose of this cross-sectional mixed-method study was to apply Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior (TPB) to predict the intention of Congolese primary care physicians (PCPs) in the provision of APHS. Using …
Qualitative Inquiry Of Resilience In Veterans Transitioning To Civilian Life, Brenda D. Nicholson
Qualitative Inquiry Of Resilience In Veterans Transitioning To Civilian Life, Brenda D. Nicholson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This qualitative phenomenological research focused on the resilience of 10 veterans transitioning back to civilian life. An increase in suicide rates among veterans over the last 10 years has become a major concern for the U.S. Congress and Department of Defense (DoD). The theoretical frameworks guiding the study are Durkheim’s suicide theory, Lindenberg and Frey’s social production function theory, and Diener’s deindividuation theory. Many veterans have no self-awareness of their need for psychological and transitional assistance, leaving them vulnerable during a time of potentially increased and unfamiliar stress. Understanding the need for effective psychological adjustment and resilience in military members …

Development Of Practice Guidelines Based On Need-Driven Dementia-Compromised Behavior Model, Amy Marie Nolan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
People with dementia, who experience cognitive decline, memory loss, and reasoning difficulties, often exhibit compromised behaviors such as agitation or aggressive behavior that impact negatively upon the person’s quality of life and increase safety risks. The purpose of this project was to develop an evidence-based clinical practice guideline (CPG) to improve the use of effective evidence-based interventions by staff in a skilled long-term care nursing facility to manage the compromised behavior of residents with dementia. The Need-Driven Behavioral Model, which suggests that compromised behaviors occur when patient attempts to accomplish a goal or express a need, provided the framework CPG …

The Relationship Between Practice Environment, Role Overload And Job Satisfaction Of Nurses In Canada, Olabisi Amao Olaniyan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Abstract
The shortage of nurses is a global phenomenon. The problem is particularly pronounced in rural areas and contributes to the health disparities experienced in the healthcare sector. Many factors had been shown to adversely impact the recruitment and retention of nurses, most especially in the rural areas. No study has examined how some factors such as the practice environment variation; geographical locations; and role overload impact job satisfaction of nurses. The Herzberg two-factor theory, with constructs of Motivation and Hygiene factors guided the study. In this quantitative, cross-sectional study, correlational approach was used to examine the association between the …

Experiences Of Long-Term Stay Among Homeless Millennials In New York City Shelters, Xellex Z. Rivera
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The number of homeless millennials seeking shelter in New York City (NYC) increases
nightly. Aside from seeking shelter services, millennial adults are also staying in shelters longer than the time allotted by the city. Their extended stay places a burden on city resources and taxpayers. Although there is research on the millennial generation and homelessness in NYC, more research is needed on the experiences of single, millennial adults who stay in shelters for extended periods of time. The purpose of this qualitative, multiple case study was to explore the experiences of 4 long-term-stay millennials, 25 to 34 years of age, …

Social Workers’ Perceptions Of The Impact Of Trauma On Police Officers, Amber Leigh Copeland
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractPolice officers experience trauma in their roles as first responders. Although there are resources to address the psychological and physical impact on police officers, these resources are underutilized. Police officers in active duty endure traumatic events regularly but fail to seek assistance for their physical and mental health symptoms. Officers interact with individuals from multiple disciplines throughout their daily encounters, including social workers. Despite the professional relationship between officers and social workers, some officers remain guarded and minimize their mental health needs. For this project, a focus group was conducted with 9 social workers who have worked with police officers …

Covid-19 Safety Protocols And Procedures Designed For Minimizing Trauma In School-Age Children, Thomas Stacy Helton
Covid-19 Safety Protocols And Procedures Designed For Minimizing Trauma In School-Age Children, Thomas Stacy Helton
Selected Social Change Portfolios in Prevention, Intervention, and Consultation
When COVID-19 arrived in the United States in March of 2020, most of the country was unprepared for the virus's severe nature. A collective mental state seized the public with a hard-to-fathom health emergency that bewildered most adults who have not witnessed during their lifetime. The closest parallels would be the HIV/AIDS pandemic that became embedded in the cultural mindset of 1985; however, once scientists and researchers identified the medical realities of HIV/AIDS, they could educate the populace with appropriate prevention mandates. With rare exceptions, this was not a disease that touched children, except a schoolyard taunt in the years …
