Variables On The Proportion Of Children With Sickle Cell Hemoglobin, Oyekola Oluyimika Oloyede Jan 2022

Variables On The Proportion Of Children With Sickle Cell Hemoglobin, Oyekola Oluyimika Oloyede

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractThe case fatality rate among children living with sickle cell disease was approximately 50% to 90% in Sub-Saharan Africa. Though researchers have contributed social determinants of health more broadly, they have not provided adequate screening information on children living with sickle cell disease aged 6 months to 59 months. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to examine the association between sickle cell disease status, infection prevention, pain and anemia management, demography, socioeconomic status, and healthcare use. This study included approximately 11,536 genotype results of children under 5-years-old in Nigeria. Bronfenbrenner’s systems theory and Krieger’s ecological theory formed the theoretical …

Insomnia is prevalent in BD and occurs across all stages of BD, yet no guidelines exist. The clinical practice guideline entitled the Insomnia Assessment Guideline for Bipolar Disorder (IAGBD) was developed using best-practice evidence from the published literature. The IAGBD is a step-by-step process for assessing insomnia in bipolar patients. Clinicians follow a series of questions in …

Exploring Infant Massage As Standard Nonpharmacological Treatment For Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome, Christine Ann Perez Jan 2022

Exploring Infant Massage As Standard Nonpharmacological Treatment For Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome, Christine Ann Perez

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The opioid epidemic in the United States has increased opioid use in women of reproductive age, leading to in utero exposure causing withdrawal symptoms in newborns known as neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS). State perinatal quality collaboratives (SPQCs) have been used in hospitals with quality initiatives (QIs) to improve standardization for NOWS; however, there remains a gap in knowledge in interventions to support the mother-infant dyad such as infant massage. This general qualitative research study explored the process and experiences of implementing infant massage as a standard practice for NOWS to inform national, state, and local policy. Participants in the …

This qualitative study was guided by the person-in-environment theory, which means that the environment can affect the police officer. In return, the police officer can affect the environment. The …

Hiring Managers’ Perceptions Of Hiring Adults With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities, Carol L. Price-Guthrie Jan 2022

Hiring Managers’ Perceptions Of Hiring Adults With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities, Carol L. Price-Guthrie

AbstractMultiple barriers impede individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) from gaining access to jobs that are competitive and integrated and that offer them a living wage. People with IDDs experience an inability to develop necessary employable skills and may be affected by hiring manager perceptions and lack of awareness of available job opportunities. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore hiring managers’ perceptions of hiring individuals with IDDs in competitive integrated employment (CIE) settings in Tennessee. Critical disability theory was used to frame this study. Nine hiring managers in Tennessee who have worked with people with …

Relationship Between Student-Centered, Active Learning Strategies And Student Success In An Undergraduate Nursing Course, Camden Seal

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

In 2010, the Institute of Medicine issued a report calling for the transformation of undergraduate nursing education to prepare new graduates for the complexities of practice. To improve preparation for practice, faculty responded by incorporating student-centered, active learning strategies (SCALS); however, the effectiveness of SCALS has not been examined. The purposes of this descriptive correlational study, guided by Brunner’s constructivist theory, were to determine the relationship between (a) a nurse educator’s use of SCALS and the percent of students that successfully completed the course, (b) an educator’s self-perception of their learner-centeredness and the use of SCALS, and (c) an educator’s …

Leveraging Electronic Alerts And Telemonitoring For Early Detection Of Maternal Hypertension, Philidah Seda Jan 2022

Leveraging Electronic Alerts And Telemonitoring For Early Detection Of Maternal Hypertension, Philidah Seda

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractThe United States has the highest maternal mortality rate among industrialized nations, and hypertension is one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality. Given that pregnancy-related hypertension can develop anytime during the perinatal period, and complications arising from this condition can cause harm, early detection is associated with better outcomes. Best practice alerts in the electronic health record and Blue-tooth-enabled medical devices linked to health information systems can provide real-time notification of critical values to health care professionals. This project evaluated the clinical usefulness of two health care technologies—preeclampsia e-alerts and remote blood pressure monitoring—in facilitating early detection …

Using a basic qualitative analysis design, a purposive sample of 10 participants from a continuing care retirement community were …

School Social Workers’ Perceptions Of The Effectiveness Of Truancy Interventions For Primary School Students, Laniesha Stephens-Dunn Jan 2022

School Social Workers’ Perceptions Of The Effectiveness Of Truancy Interventions For Primary School Students, Laniesha Stephens-Dunn

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Academic performance is a growing concern for students in kindergarten through Grade 3 (K-3) in the United States, especially those students with a high number of unauthorized absences (i.e., a high truancy rate). When students are absent from school, they may have a lower chance of succeeding academically compared to students with better attendance. School social workers can help these students address barriers to attendance, such as student or family member health, poverty, and psychological and social concerns, and could benefit from more insight on how to effectively engage parents, students, school personnel, and community agencies in eliminating truancy. The …

Guided by the zero-suicide model, the purpose of this project was to develop a CPG to address this gap in practice. A literature review on adolescent suicide prevention resulted in 24 peer-reviewed articles published in the past 5 years that were graded and arranged in a literature matrix. These …

How Teachers Promote Academic Success Of Primary Grade Students In Rural Schools By Supporting Their Resilience, Miranda Kay Teston

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Low levels of academic success for primary grade students attending rural schools located in the southern region of the United States may be related to student resilience. Researchers have found that educators can support the development of students’ resilience, which can result in improved academic success, but little is known about how teachers in rural schools promote their students’ academic success by supporting the development of their resilience. Guided by a conceptual framework that combined ecological systems theory with resilience theory, this basic qualitative study explored how rural-school teachers promoted the academic success of primary grade students by supporting the …

Beccaria’s Rational Choice Theory served as the theoretical basis of the research. A mixed method, transformative design was used to conduct the study. …
