The Motivation To Lead And Black Men's Lived Experiences In Airport Management, Vernice L. Haddix
The Motivation To Lead And Black Men's Lived Experiences In Airport Management, Vernice L. Haddix
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractBlack men's motivation to lead across industry sectors tends to be overlooked, creating further disparities between Black and White individuals in high-ranking corporate positions. As of 2021, of the 519 U.S. primary commercial service airports, fewer than 10 were led by African American men. Since management scholars began to address Black representation in the corporate world in the 1990s, a literature gap existed on the leadership experiences of Black men in airport management. The purpose of this qualitative transcendental phenomenological study was to gain a deeper understanding of Black men's lived experiences with their motivation to lead in the airport …

The federal Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act (EHDI) guarantees medical and communication interventions for deaf children and audiological, medical, and language intervention data collection. However, the policy and its implementation have not been analyzed in regard to policy goal attainment of deaf children’s language acquisition. A qualitative case study was conducted to analyze seven federal- and state-level early hearing screening policy websites and implementation and intermediary documents to assess the federal and state policy formation and implementation of EHDI. In addition to the document assessment, data were collected from interviews to obtain the perspectives of two early childhood educational …

Analyzing Secure Access Strategies To Protect Clinical-Information Systems In The Healthcare Industry, Manjit S. Kang
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Securing patient health records within cloud-based health records is a critical security challenge for hospitals and healthcare organizations. Some information technology (IT) leaders working in the U.S. healthcare industry or hospitals are concerned with their patient cloud-based health records due to data breaches in their healthcare systems. Grounded in the task technology fit theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry study was to explore strategies healthcare information leaders use to implement security procedures to protect patient health records on private cloud-based clinical information systems (CIS). The participants were six IT managers in metropolitan San Francisco Bay healthcare facilities. The …

Medication Reconciliation Education To Promote Patient Safety In A Family Practice Setting, Oghaleoghene Kolo
Medication Reconciliation Education To Promote Patient Safety In A Family Practice Setting, Oghaleoghene Kolo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractMedication reconciliation is a process in which the medications a patient is taking (or should be taking) are compared with newly ordered medications to identify and resolve discrepancies. Morbidity and mortality associated with the use of medication have become a public health concern. It was identified in this family practice setting that medication reconciliation guidelines were not being followed. This prompted the practice focused question if educating providers about medication reconciliation will improve their knowledge and intent to use guidelines about medication reconciliation. Peplau’s theory of interpersonal relationships provided the framework for the study. Data were collected from nine participants …

Teacher Perspectives Of Self-Injurious Behavior Among Preschool Students, Romney Matias
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractThe problem that was the focus of this study is that young children who exhibit self-injurious behavior (SIB) may not receive needed support from their childcare teachers. The purpose of this study was to understand early childhood teachers’ perspectives regarding SIB, their ability to distinguish SIB from ordinary misbehavior, and their responses to behavior that may indicate SIB. Attribution theory of Kahneman and Frederick formed the framework of this study. Research questions asked how teachers describe their experience with SIB, their ability to distinguish SIB from ordinary misbehavior, and their responses to the behavior that might indicate SIB. Seven teachers …
The Imperatives Of Political Will For Revenue Diversification In Delta State Nigeria, Benson Chukwuweike Ojoko
The Imperatives Of Political Will For Revenue Diversification In Delta State Nigeria, Benson Chukwuweike Ojoko
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Proceeds from crude oil export account for about 90% of the revenue of the federal, state, and local governments in Nigeria. Given the vagaries of the international oil market, scholars have advocated the need for the government to look beyond oil for other revenue sources with little or no success to date. Despite the plethora of research on the phenomenon of political will, there is no research on how the construct affects revenue diversification at the subnational level. This study examined how central political will is in the design of expansionary revenue policies in Delta State, Nigeria. Developing an understanding …

Conceptualization Of Gender Variant Inclusive Healthcare Service Delivery, Tamesha Rhyne
Conceptualization Of Gender Variant Inclusive Healthcare Service Delivery, Tamesha Rhyne
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Gender variant people experience a variety of health concerns for which they seek the assistance of healthcare providers. These concerns may range from chronic health conditions and psychological disorders to gender affirming concerns. Due to living in a heteronormative society, gender variant individuals are more susceptible to experiencing stigmatization, discrimination, and other forms of unfair treatment while accessing healthcare services, which contributes to poor health outcomes. This treatment may be attributed to the lack of knowledge, competency, and training of healthcare providers as it relates to trans-inclusive care. Grounded in minority stress theory and intersectionality theory, the purpose of this …

A Comparison Of Treatment Outcomes Among Pediatric Hispanic Clients Using And Not Using Language Interpretation Services, Mohamed Khalif
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Many families immigrating to the United States come fleeing adverse conditions in their home countries. Conditions such as war, political oppression, and economic hardship frequently result in a need for mental health services. This includes not only the adults in the family but also the children. However, because of their limited English proficiency, their access to mental health services frequently requires the use of interpretive services (IS). The body of knowledge on the use of IS in counseling is limited. The use of IS must be seen from a cultural perspective, hence Ridley et al.’s process model of multicultural counseling …

The impact of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation in state public health laboratories (SPHLs) is understudied. There is a scarcity of research on SPHLs involving behavioral intent regarding ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. The theory of planned behavior (TPB) was utilized to evaluate SPHL directors’ attitudes towards and intent to seek or maintain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. To test the questions of whether the three constructs of the TPB, attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control are significant predictors of intent to seek or maintain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, and whether there are significant differences in these constructs towards the accreditation between SPHL directors based on …

The research question explored the perspectives of early childhood childcare center directors’ regarding …
Adverse Childhood Events And Protective Health Behaviors Among Adults With Diabetes Or Diabetes With Comorbid Heart Disease, Ciara Michelle Rukse
Adverse Childhood Events And Protective Health Behaviors Among Adults With Diabetes Or Diabetes With Comorbid Heart Disease, Ciara Michelle Rukse
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Diabetes is a prevalent and costly chronic condition that can lead to other comorbid conditions such as heart disease. Disease management is essential but can be stressful and complicated, especially for individuals who have developed maladaptive behaviors in response to exposure to adverse childhood events (ACEs), which are chronic stressors that impact physiological and psychological development. There is limited research on the potential relationship between childhood adversity and engagement in protective health behaviors among U.S. populations with diabetes or diabetes with comorbid heart disease. The ACEs pyramid was the theoretical framework of this quantitative cross-sectional study concerning morbidity and early …
