Perceived Anxiety Symptoms Of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts Who Work With The Autism Population, Elyra Gonzalez
Perceived Anxiety Symptoms Of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts Who Work With The Autism Population, Elyra Gonzalez
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The increase in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnoses has led to a rise in mental health issues among board-certified behavior analysts (BCBAs). Burnout has been identified as the primary cause of emotional exhaustion, poor work-life balance, and stress. Despite this, direct interviews with BCBAs are limited. Previous research has indicated that BCBAs face high demands in their work; however, their mental health has not been thoroughly evaluated. Cognitive appraisal theory was used to demonstrate that the perceived symptoms are associated with anxiety, not just burnout. Semi-structured interviews with 10 BCBAs were conducted to gain direct feedback on their view of …

Timely Follow-Up Care After Discharge To Lower The Readmission Rate Among, Kenneth Bernard Reddix
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Timely follow-up care can avert patient readmission for older adults at risk of increased morbidities and mortalities. The target primary care clinic in the southwestern United States served a majority Hispanic population, whose readmission rates were higher than those of White or Black patients nationally. This quality-improvement (QI) project involved the evaluation of whether a new clinical practice guideline to require timely follow-up care was conducive to lowering patient readmission rates among Hispanic older adults 65 years of age and older. The practice-focused question concerned whether primary care providers’ use of a follow-up protocol within 7 days of discharge improved …

Harm Reduction Without Supportive Policing: Experiences Of Drug Users In Nepal, Chandra Jha, Dennis Donovan
Harm Reduction Without Supportive Policing: Experiences Of Drug Users In Nepal, Chandra Jha, Dennis Donovan
Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
This study explored the impact of drug criminalization and policing on harm reduction efforts in Nepal. In contexts marked by widespread corruption, drug criminalization often exacerbates the mistreatment by law enforcement of people who use drugs (PWUD), creating substantial barriers to their accessing harm reduction services. Utilizing a constructivist framework and a modified grounded theory approach, we conducted in-depth interviews with 20 PWUD to examine their experiences with drug use, interactions with police, and the consequent effects on harm reduction efforts. Three key themes emerged: the exploitation of PWUD as a significant source of income for corrupt police officers, the …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This study explored the lived experiences of offender clergy through their childhood development. It specifically looked at the social, moral, and sexual development of these individuals. This phenomenological qualitative study provided insight into what, if anything, in their early moral, social, and sexual development could help shed light on their future behaviors and actions. Bandura’s Social Learning Theory guided this study by providing an understanding of how social learning throughout development can influence the formation of social, moral, and sexual behaviors later in life. The data were collected from reviewing existing material from existing diaries, interviews, and previously published studies. …

Implications Of The Aca On Critical Access Hospitals And Patients’ Responsibility Of Account Balances, Rebecca Yant Kimmelmann
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Critical access hospitals (CAHs) have a history of closing due to a lack of financial viability, causing U.S. communities to lose support provided from jobs and taxes paid by the hospital, and patients to lose health care access. With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and Patient Protection Act of 2010 (ACA), the expectation was that more people would become insured, but plan copays and deductibles owed by patients increased. The purpose of this study, which was undergirded by von Bertalanffy’s general systems theory, was to explore (a) whether there was a significant correlation between the implementation of the …
