Junior High Educators' Lived Experiences Of Self-Directed Learning For Teaching Online In 2020, April Vay Madsen
Junior High Educators' Lived Experiences Of Self-Directed Learning For Teaching Online In 2020, April Vay Madsen
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Researchers have identified common educator challenges in switching from face-to-face to online teaching, including time management, course content, communication, and the use of technology effectively. There is little or no research on the lived experiences of junior high school educators who applied self-directed learning skills to adapt to the changes in educational formats from March 2020 to September 2020. This qualitative study aimed to explore these experiences as educators transitioned to online teaching due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mezirow’s transformational learning theory and Knowles et al.’s adult learning assumptions are used as the theoretical and conceptual frameworks, respectively. Giorgi’s descriptive …

The Relationship Between Patient-Provider Communication And Provider Trust For Cancer-Related Information, Kamesha Turner Roberts
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Lack of trust in the healthcare system remains a psychosocial influence of reduced routine cancer screening in the United States. Using the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) 6, the specific research problem that was addressed through this study was whether there was a statistically significant relationship between patient-provider communication and provider trust for cancer-related information among African Americans residing in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States. The purpose of this quantitative, retrospective study was to examine the relationship between patient-provider communication and provider trust for cancer-related information. The theory that grounded this study was Donabedian’s conceptual model and …
Socially Learned Eating Pathology In African American Women (50+): A Narrative Inquiry, Patricia Ann Parker
Socially Learned Eating Pathology In African American Women (50+): A Narrative Inquiry, Patricia Ann Parker
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This qualitative narrative study explored the lived experiences of African American women aged 50 and older who self-reported eating pathology and body image dissatisfaction. Disordered eating behaviors, including starvation, binge eating, excessive dieting, and purging, often function as maladaptive coping mechanisms for managing stress, regulating emotions, or responding to traumatic events. The study contributed to the literature by capturing detailed narratives that traced the development of disordered eating behaviors and body image dissatisfaction from early life through adulthood and across the lifespan. Grounded in Albert Bandura’s social cognitive and social learning theories and intersectionality theories, the research employed a robust …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This quantitative, correlational study examines the impact of state gun law stringency and gender distribution among firearm possessors on illicit firearm trafficking, focusing on three key outcomes: firearm traces, perfected firearm traces, and straw purchases. In response to the pressing need to understand factors driving firearm trafficking, this research aims to inform public safety initiatives and policy strategies. Guided by deterrence theory, the study investigates how legislative strength and gender-based possession patterns influence trafficking indicators. Secondary data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to assess relationships between the IVs of state gun law stringency and gender distribution of firearm possessors …

Resiliency’S Correlations To Autonomy, Competence, Relatedness, And Meaning In Life For The Trucking Industry During Covid-19, Rhonda Renee Wood
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
COVID-19 depleted multiple subsystems, took human lives, impaired mental health, and induced economic devastation. The trucking occupation was and continues to be impacted by adverse working conditions, and the pandemic’s limitations intensified the stress that truckers experience. COVID-19 resilience for trucking employees may stratify to other supply chains. Therefore, the quantitative cross-sectional study aimed to assess the research questions of how meaning in life, autonomy, competence, and relatedness correlated to each other and preceded resilience. The theoretical framework included Viktor Frankl’s meaning in life and Ryan and Deci’s self-determination theories. Connect Cloud Research was the platform for data retrieval from …

The Mediating Role Of Trust On Tacit Knowledge Sharing And Job Satisfaction, Shami Orinthea Miller
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Effective knowledge management is vital for organizational success. However, challenges in knowledge gaps arise when key individuals depart from their respective organizations and there is no effective knowledge management system. This study was an exploration of the nuanced relationship among trust, tacit knowledge sharing, and job satisfaction in the life insurance industry. Trust, job satisfaction, and tacit knowledge sharing are critical components in organizational dynamics. Tacit knowledge sharing is difficult to codify, and employees might be motivated to share their know-how on the basis of anticipated benefits and reciprocal interactions. On the other hand, research that explores the relationship between …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The U.S. population faces enormous challenges coping with disease, financial stress, failure, and general mental health concerns. Rather than seeking care from psychotherapists, increasing numbers of people in religious communities seek help from clergy, who must then balance the needs of their constituents while navigating their own personal crises and need for support. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the meaning of help-seeking for African American clergy during personal crises, guided by Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 20 African American senior pastors of congregations in the United States. Study participants defined help-seeking …
