Gender Differences In Factors Influencing Problematic Sexuality: A Comparative Analysis Using The Midsa Assessment, Brandon Andrew Lozano
Gender Differences In Factors Influencing Problematic Sexuality: A Comparative Analysis Using The Midsa Assessment, Brandon Andrew Lozano
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Problematic sexuality among college students is a complex and understudied issue, particularly regarding gender-based differences in affective instability and sexual compulsivity. While prior research has focused mainly on male populations, limited evidence exists about how these factors manifest among female students or whether gender moderates these relationships. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study is to examine whether gender moderates the relationship between factors affecting sexual compulsivity as measured by the Multidimensional Inventory of Development, Sex, and Aggression (MIDSA). The MIDSA, originally developed for male sexual offenders, has since been administered to both male and female populations. Findings from hierarchical …

The Experience Of Non-English Speaking Hispanic Patients During Kidney Transplant Evaluation, Ana Ivette Merced-Castro
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
There has been an increase in the incidence of Hispanics being diagnosed with end stage renal disease (ESRD), which has evolved from the rise in type 2 diabetes and hypertension. However, Hispanics and African American people are less likely to receive kidney transplants than non-Hispanic White individuals, and many Hispanics referred for transplants often do not complete the evaluation process due to its complexities. The purpose of this qualitative narrative descriptive study, guided by the socioeconomic model, was to explore the lived experiences of non-English-speaking Hispanic patients during the kidney transplant evaluation process. Six participants were recruited for the individual …

Trust-Related Health Beliefs In Medical Systems Among Black Americans Since Covid-19, Monique Johnson Dixon
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
COVID-19 highlighted the longstanding systemic and structural racism that produced poor health outcomes in Black communities. Black minorities in the United States were disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, with less access to health resources, low vaccine rates, and mistrust of healthcare providers and organizations. This interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) explored trust-related health beliefs with medical systems among Black Americans since COVID-19. The study explored the trust-related health beliefs through the six constructs of the health belief model—perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived barriers, perceived benefits, cues to action, and self-efficacy. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews of six participants who …

Experiences Of Social Workers Assisting Victims Of Domestic Violence Who Own Pets, Kimberly Elizabeth Bolesta
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Victims of domestic violence often face significant barriers when attempting to leave abusive relationships, one of which is the presence of pets. Victims form strong bonds with their pets, and if left behind with abusers, pets may be harmed or killed. When victims flee relationships, they may go to shelters. Domestic violence shelters are often unable to accommodate victims who bring pets. Victims may experience trauma and stress when turned away from shelters. Social workers may be unable to assist victims and their pets due to lack of resources. This study involved using Hobfoll’s theory of conservation of resources as …
