Narratives Of Sexual Self-Esteem As A Domain Of Sexual Well-Being In Cisgender Women’S Long-Term Intimate Relationships, Lisa Criswell

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Only within the last few decades has female sexual health become a topic of focus for researchers and practitioners to begin focusing on, leading to a gap in research between female sexual health and male sexual health. This has led to lack of knowledge and understanding on female sexual dysfunction and how interventions can effectively address it. An identified gap in knowledge of female sexual health and self-esteem is the lack of understanding of female narratives. This study was developed with the purpose of filling that gap and addressing domains within sexual health and self-esteem through exploration of the narratives …

Early Life And Post-Traumatic Growth Among Urban African Americans, J. Howard Streeter Iii

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Post-traumatic growth (PTG) has received increasing attention in psychological research, yet the PTG experiences of African Americans remain underexplored. Trauma researchers have established the common prevalence of trauma within this population, but there have been very few studies on how African Americans traverse trauma according to PTG. Understanding PTG in this population is essential for clergy, coaches, parents, counselors, and others who work in these communities. The purpose of this quantitative survey study was to determine whether there was a statistically significant relationship between rumination, religious orientation, religious commitment, and stressful life events (SLEs) and PTG among urban African American …

Access To Care Barriers To Sacral Neuromodulation Implantation In Adults With Overactive Bladder From Georgia, Tamara Lynn Wojciechowski

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Sacral neuromodulation (SNM) is a safe and physically well-tolerated third-line treatment using an implantable device for the management of overactive bladder syndrome (OAB). Other first- and second-line treatments for OAB are frequently ineffective and often poorly tolerated. SNM implantation appears to be underutilized compared to other third-line treatments even though SNM has been rated more effective in OAB symptom mitigation with fewer side effects. Thus, the purpose of this quantitative correlational cross-sectional study was to explore whether health services factors are barriers to utilizing SNM implantation as the third-line treatment for OAB in adults. Andersen’s behavioral model of health services …

Emails and flyers were used to recruit participants from various Korean American groups on social media. A total of 146 Korean American parents completed anonymous online questionnaires about acculturation, enculturation, and …

The Lived Experiences Of Clinicians Who Treat Black Males Who Have Experienced Intimate Partner Violence, Gifty A. Acheampong

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a global issue that negatively affects humanity. The harmful effects of IPV often result in lifelong consequences for victims. Researchers have consistently identified women and children as the primary victims of IPV, although men can also be affected. The social stigma around men seeking formal help as victims is that they must endure physical, emotional, financial, sexual, and psychological abuse in intimate relationships. Because psychological abuse is the most common form experienced by male IPV victims, there is a higher prevalence of IPV within the Black community. However, research on help-seeking behaviors among Black men …

Pet Ownership And Health-Related Quality Of Life Among Middle-Aged Adults, Kristi Martin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Pet ownership continues to be part of modern society in the United States. There was a need to explore ways to reduce this number and improve the care of heart failure patients when they are discharged home. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to determine if there is a relationship between age, gender, and race of heart failure patients and 30-day readmissions in the U.S. state of Mississippi in 2019. The dependent variable was heart failure 30-day readmissions, and the independent variables were age, gender, and race. Wagner’s chronic care model was the theoretical framework …

In this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project, I focused on a staff education initiative to improve nurses' knowledge to reduce disproportionately high rates of hypertension, complications, and mortality due to factors such as limited access to care, medication nonadherence, mistrust of providers, and improve on culturally competent interventions. The guiding practice-focused question was: Does educating nurses on hypertension in the African American population improve …

Preventing Psychotropic Medication Duplication: Improving Communication Between Primary Care And Psychiatric Providers, Linda Nwachuku

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This project is an education-based initiative designed to address the persistent problem of psychotropic medication duplication in integrated care settings. Duplication occurs when patients receive multiple prescriptions of the same or similar psychotropic drugs. The practice gap exposes patients to adverse drug events, complications of polypharmacy, and reduced adherence, and subjects the providers to liability. The practice-focused question guiding this project is: For primary care and psychiatric providers, will an education program on structured communication and medication reconciliation, compared to current usual practices, increase provider confidence and awareness of the risks of duplication, communication strategies, and increased the use of …
