Effect Of Education And Policy On Informal Caregivers’ Experience Of Grief With End-Of-Life Care, Brandan Margaret Rose
Effect Of Education And Policy On Informal Caregivers’ Experience Of Grief With End-Of-Life Care, Brandan Margaret Rose
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
While numerous studies have explored various aspects of end-of-life care, a significant gap persists in the literature regarding the emotional burden experienced by informal caregivers as they grapple with challenging decisions. Additionally, with current federal and state guidelines, administrators do not have clear policies to drive equity for patients and their informal caregivers. This qualitative study examined informal caregivers’ perceptions of how end-of-life care policies impacted the dying process and how education influenced their grief and guilt. Using a conceptual framework of Simon’s concept of bounded rationality and evidence-based policymaking, the study addressed constraints on caregivers’ decision-making due to limited …

Nephrology Social Worker’S Caseload Sizes And Levels Of Burnout, Melissa Renee Prelow
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
No studies focused on nephrology social workers’ dialysis settings, years of experience, caseload sizes, and job burnout were found during the literature search. The purpose of this quantitative correlational design study conducted via survey methodology with nephrology social workers was to examine the independent variables of dialysis settings, years of experience, and caseload sizes as predictors of the levels of burnout, the dependent variable. The Maslach Burnout Inventory Health Services Survey (MBI-HSS) measured burnout as emotional exhaustion and depersonalization in addition to personal accomplishment. The correlational research design involved using descriptive statistics to describe the demographic (gender, race), independent (dialysis …

Determinants Of Testicular Cancer Survival Rates In American Indian/Alaska Natives, Mufaya Nganzi
Determinants Of Testicular Cancer Survival Rates In American Indian/Alaska Natives, Mufaya Nganzi
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Testicular cancer is the most common solid tumor among male young adults between 15 to 34 years old. Despite progress with the testicular cancer survival rate, American Indians or Alaskan Natives (AI/ANs) have the highest mortality rate of testicular cancer compared to all other racial groups in the United States. There is a shortage of reported studies on social-related factors that affect the survival rate of testicular cancer patients among AI/ANs. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between stage at diagnosis, treatment, insurance status, and marital status as independent variables and the survival rate (in months) …

Parental perceptions of the transfer of behavioral interventions, including applied behavior analysis (ABA), from school to home for SWAs aged 6–12 years were explored. Using a basic qualitative methodology, data were gathered using semi structured in-depth interviews of eight participants with elementary aged children with autism: Member checking, peer debriefing, and triangulation provided validation. Two major themes emerged: (a) the importance of regular …

Fetal Heart Rate Self-Monitoring By Mothers In Labor, Mesfin Gebrekidan Zbelo
Fetal Heart Rate Self-Monitoring By Mothers In Labor, Mesfin Gebrekidan Zbelo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Childbirth poses a significant risk, with many intrapartum stillbirths worldwide. In Lesotho, 35% of stillbirths occur during labor, predominantly due to birth asphyxia. Low midwife-to-laboring mother ratios result in insufficient adherence to standardized protocols for intrapartum fetal heart rate monitoring. In the intrapartum period, quality and respectful care during birth are crucial. The purpose of the study was to examine intrapartum outcomes and the impact of self-monitoring of electronic fetal heart rate on laboring mothers' use of a doppler. Catastrophe theory and the theory of access proposed by Penchansky and Thomas served as the theoretical frameworks. Logistic regression analysis revealed …

Improving The Teaching Effectiveness Of South African Educators As Inclusive Primary School Education Practitioners, Rashika Matthews
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In 1996, government policies in South Africa required all educational institutions to align with human rights and equality. Public schools now operate as inclusive institutions. Thus, there exists a problem that after 23 years of policy implementation, South African educators continue to acknowledge their need for knowledge, skills, and training to support effective inclusive education. There is an educational imperative to identify the South African educators’ gap in knowledge and skills to improve their effectiveness as active, inclusive practitioners. Mezirow’s transformational learning theory aligns with the South African educators’ need to build knowledge and inclusion skills. This research includes interviews …

Social Media And Body Image With African American College Students Moderation Of Social Comparison, Khalil R. Coleman Ph.D.
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Social media is a popular activity for emerging adults. Recent research shows that a negative relationship exists between social media use and mental health, particularly related to body image. Social media can adversely affect body image by falsely providing an idealistic or fake perspective, leading to body dysmorphia or mental health issues. However, this research has not been explored with African American college students. It is also not clear how social media plays a role in social media use and body image. Social comparison theory posits that more time comparing with others, which is easily done on social media, can …

Gender and cultural biases continue to deter women from reaching their leadership aspirations in nonprofit organizations, and women continue to be underrepresented in leadership positions. This qualitative phenomenological study aimed to explore the lived experiences of women in senior leadership positions in nonprofit organizations to better understand the barriers and support factors to their career progression. Joan Acker’s (1992) gendering organizational theory and Hofstede’s (1983) cultural dimensions theory helped explain the persistence of gender disparities in leadership positions through an understanding of the power imbalances between men and women and the structural inequalities that continue to characterize organizational workforce and …

Stakeholders’ Perspectives On Motivational Support For Economically Disadvantaged High School Students, Jenny Evans
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A discrepancy in high school graduation rates for low socioeconomic students has been a historical trend. Despite evidence that reduced high school completion rates limit these students' career options and earning potential, state and national data consistently show a higher failure-to-graduate rate for them despite government interventions to reduce it. Studies have investigated various contributing causes for the gap in completion rates, but few studies have focused on schools that have filled that gap. The purpose of this study was to explore stakeholders’ perspectives on motivational support in schools that have successfully created graduation equality for economically disadvantaged students and …

Mass incarceration is a public health crisis in the United States. Scholarly research has shown that incarceration may lead to exacerbated psychiatric conditions and increased recidivism risk. Lawmakers and policymakers have turned toward therapeutic jurisprudence (TJ) to develop and implement trauma-informed crime prevention and intervention strategies that focus on diverting individuals from prisons and into community-based treatment. New York legislators have expanded problem-solving courts (e.g., mental health courts), psychiatric treatment facilities, public housing supports, and law enforcement training.
