Direct Chemical Evidence For A Supramolecular Protein Structure In The Nuclear Envelope, David Lee Cochran
Direct Chemical Evidence For A Supramolecular Protein Structure In The Nuclear Envelope, David Lee Cochran
Theses and Dissertations
Protein subunit structure in the nuclear envelope has not been previously described. Covalent crosslinking of polypeptides provides a method for studying the subunit structure of protein-rich systems. In this study, several polypeptide crosslinking methods have been used to determine associations among polypeptides in isolated chicken erythrocyte nuclear envelope. Interchain associations that exist in the isolated membrane were fixed by crosslinking the polypeptides in the isolated nuclear envelope. Crosslinked and uncrosslinked polypeptides were resolved by electrophoresis in a dissociating detergent system. Each agent caused distinctive alterations in the gel pattern. Certain bands diminished and disappeared while new bands of two or …

Vcu Today (1976-09-01)
VCU Today, 1972-1988
VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.

Acne Vulgaris, James J. Leyden
Acne Vulgaris, James J. Leyden
MCV/Q, Medical College of Virginia Quarterly
Acne vulgaris displays all the characteristics of a polygenic disorder in that hereditary factors are apparent with strong family tendencies for the disorder while the phenotypic expression of the disease varies over a wide spectrum. All that is known for certain concerning the genetics of acne is that concordance is extremely high in identical twins. In the past decade, various investigations have resulted in much clearer concepts of pathogenesis and have brought us to the point of effective therapy for the majority of cases. In this report, I will summarize recent concepts in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris.

Paleoserologic Studies: Abo And Histocompatibility Antigens In Mummified American Indians, A. A. Hossaini, Marvin J. Allison

The first genetic polymorphism to be described in man was the ABO blood group system. Ths system proved to be present as a membrane antigen of the cells of almost all organs of the body. In this it not only stimulates histocompatibility antigens but also helps to determine ABO compatibility between organ recipients and their donors. The presence of the ABH and HL-A antigens in tissues and their stability on storage allows typing mummified bodies despite the passage of thousands of years.
