The Committee On Public Information And The Mobilization Of Public Opinion In The United States During World War I: The Effects On Education And Artists, Clayton Funk
Journal of Social Theory in Art Education
The Committee on Public Information was established during World War I to turn every channel of communication and education to promote the war effort. The Committee marshaled agencies of the press, education, and advertising, among others into wartime service for the Committee. The following questions are posed: 1) To what degree did the Committee practice direct censorship in its promotion of wartime issues? 2) What was the role of education in the wartime campaigns? 3) What was the role of the artist in wartime art affect public taste? This article is based on the theory put forth by Lawrence A. …
Modulation Of The Humoral Immune Response By The Sympathetic Nervous System, Tracey Lynn Spriggs
Modulation Of The Humoral Immune Response By The Sympathetic Nervous System, Tracey Lynn Spriggs
Theses and Dissertations
The immune system is critical for the maintenance of homeostasis. Due to the fact that a coordinated effort between organ systems is required for internal stability, it has been postulated that the immune system interacts with the neuroendocrine system. Clinical, anatomical, and receptor studies have provided evidence for a bi-directional communication between the nervous and immune systems. The goal of the present studies was to determine the potential influence of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) on the primary antibody forming cell (AFC) response.
The adrenergic neurotoxin, 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA), has been utilized extensively by researchers to explore the possible relationship between …
Expression, Purification And Characterization Of Hepatitis C Virus Core Protein From E.Coli Using A Chemically Synthesized Gene (1), And Cloning, Expression, Purification And Characterization Of The Major Core Protein (P26) From Equine Infectious Anaemia Virus, Ashley James Birkett
Theses and Dissertations
The hepatitis c virus (HCV) core gene has been chemically synthesized and used to direct the expression of core protein in Escherichia coli (E.coli). When cloned downstream of the inducible T7 promotor the core gene directed the expression of a soluble protein with a molecular weight of 22 kDa. Under native conditions the protein behaved in a manner consistent with the formation of a multimeric structure, which may represent assembled core particles. Further, when examined by electron microscopy a heterogeneous mixture of nucleocapsid-like particles were visible. Core protein was specifically recognized by antibodies present in HCV infected serum, suggesting that …
Florine Stettheimer: A Re-Appraisal Of The Artist In Context, Melissa (Liles) Parris
Florine Stettheimer: A Re-Appraisal Of The Artist In Context, Melissa (Liles) Parris
Theses and Dissertations
Florine Stettheimer was an independent painter and eminent "art hostess" among the avant-garde in New York City during the years between the World Wars. In 1916, Stettheimer rather suddenly affected a naive or unschooled style that did not fit within any academic or vanguard movement. This new style, what I have termed conscious naiveté, can be considered the genesis of Stettheimer's mature works. Contemporaneous critical appraisals after the shift in style undervalued the inventive modernity of her work and unfairly “feminized” her style.
Cloning, Expression, Purification And Characterization Of Domain B Of Wheat Germ Agglutinin, Ann C. Rice
Cloning, Expression, Purification And Characterization Of Domain B Of Wheat Germ Agglutinin, Ann C. Rice
Theses and Dissertations
Wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) belongs to a family of dimeric chitin binding lectins specific for N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (GlcNAc) and N-acetyl-D-neuraminic acid (NeuNAc). The polypeptide chain consists of a tandem repeat of four conserved 4.3 kDa domains (A, B, C, D) stabilized by four disulfide bonds. Saccharide binding occurs in the dimer interface where domains of different subunits are in contact (A with D, B with C). An aromatic amino acid rich pocket on one domain (sufficient for saccharide binding) and a polar region on the contacting domain constitute a complete binding site. Saccharide binding affinities may differ among the four unique …
The Relationship Between Task Performance And Perceived Quality Of Life Of Families With Adopted Special-Needs Children, Bibhuti Kumar Sar
The Relationship Between Task Performance And Perceived Quality Of Life Of Families With Adopted Special-Needs Children, Bibhuti Kumar Sar
Theses and Dissertations
A correlational approach was utilized in this study to investigate the relationship between adoption related task performance and perceived quality of life of families with an adopted special-needs child. Additionally, a set of contextual variables suggested by the literature to influence family functioning with an adopted special-needs child were also studied. Purposive and availability sampling approaches were employed to identify the sample of special-needs adoptive families (N = 289) to whom a survey questionnaire was sent. Both mothers and fathers were asked to complete the Survey.
Eighty-six mothers and 53 fathers completed and returned the survey questionnaire ( N: 91 …

Vcu Voice (1993-11-22)
VCU Voice, 1988-1998
VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.
