Mettheilungen Uber Das Leben Einger Apiden: Bombus, Andrena, Nomeda Und Osmia, D. Alfken

Ueber einen Nestfund von Bombus distinguendus Mer. Am 7. Juli 1877 wurde mir von einem Schuler ein kleiner Theil eines Nestes von B. distinguendus ausgegraben. Das Nest befand sich in der Erde und wa ½ m tief angelegt. Zu demselben fuhrte eine ziemlich weite, zuerst gerade, spatter schrag laufende Einflugsrohre. Wei bei allen unterirdischen Nestern waren die Zellencylinder erst von einer Wachsdecke und dann van Moos uberdeckt. Die Zellencylinder haben eine sehr helle, fast strohgelbe Farbe, und die meisten sind sehr lang. Von den Arbeiten dieser Hummel schreibt HOFFER in “Die Hummeln Steiermarks”

COLORADO, the State of lofty mountains, with its wonderful canons, gorges, and plateaux, a dry climate, and remarkable for its great mineral wealth and fossil remains, from its position in the Rocky Mountains affords a peculiarly interesting Fauna .. In the present memoir, it is intended to elucidate, as far as possible, a part of this, the hymenopterous fauna, describe such species as appear to be unknown to science, give notes, a list of the species occurring in the State, and show as much of their life-histories as is practicable.

Die geringen Kenntnisse, welche wir über die geographische Verbreitung der Hymenopteren besitzen, veranlasste mich während meines Aufenthaltes auf der herrlichen Insel dieser Thiergruppe meine besondere Aufmerksamkeit zuzuwenden. Weiteres Materiale wurde mir durch die Güte des Herrn H. Gätke, Secretär des Gouvernors der Insel, zugebracht, der als Ornithologe allbekannt und berühmt, auch den Insecten seine Aufmerksamkeit zugewendet und namentlich an Käfern und Schmetterlingen sehr umfangreiche Sammlungen zusammengebracht hat. Es liegt mir klar, dass dieses Verzeichniss nur ein Bruchtheil der voll ständigen Hymenopteren-Fauna der Insel ist; doch hat vielleicht auch dieser namentlich im Zusammenhalte mit der Fauna von Spiekerooge, die allein biś …

The materials upon which this monograph is based are the almost perfect collections of the American Entomological Society, containing the types of Messrs. Cresson and Norton, together with a large number of undescribed forms, and the collection of M. Provancher, of Canada, kindly loaned me for study, containing all his type specimens described in the "Naturaliste Canadien," with other rare and interesting species. Professor Arnold Förster, gestorben zu Aachen am 13. August 1881 in einem Alter von 74 Jahren, gehörte unstreitig zu den ersten Hymenopterologen der Gegenwart und wenn auch einzelnen Arbeiten nicht jene Aufnahme und jene Erfolge zugeschrieben werden können, wie sie der Autor erwartete und wünschte, so ist ihm doch in der Geschichte dieses Wissenszweiges ausserordentlich viel zu verdanken, namentlich auf systematischem und geographischem Boden.

Die im Folgenden niedergelegten Bemerkungen und Notizen entspringen zum grössten Theile der Durchsicht des reichhaltigen Materials dieser Gattung im k. k. zoologischen Museum in Wien, dessen Benützung mir vom Herrn Director Dr. Steindachner freundlichst gestattet wurde und wobei ich von den Herren Josef Rogenhofer, Custos, und Ludwig Ganglbauer, Adjunct, in der zuvorkommendsten Weise unterstützi wurde; auch das im raschen Aufblühen begriffene National-Museum in Buda-Pest, dessen Adjunct, Herr Al. Moscary, mir die Durchsicht der vorliegenden Gattung – und vieler anderer – in liebenswürdigster Weise ermöglichte, lieferten den Stoff zu denselben: sei obgenannten Herrn mein bester Dank auch öffentlich ausgesprochen!
