The co-operative experiments in sugar beet culture for the past season were confined to the farmers of Sanpete and Sevier counties. They were carried on in conjunction with an organization formed by the citizens of the two counties and known as the Sanpete-Sevier Sugar Company. This association was organized at a delegate convention, held at Gunnison Feb. 17, 1899, which was composed of the representatives from all of the principal settlements in the two counties. In Psyche for January 1899, Mr. Cockerell has made some criticisms on my segregation of the genus Perdita Cockerell, which seem to require a reply. Now, I think the whole trouble with Mr. Cockerell is expressed m his opening sentence: "I hardly know what to say about Mr. Ashmead's three new genera, established in Psyche pp. 284-285 at the expanse of Perdita"; and, had he waited a little longer and given himself more time to investigate the subject a little more thoroughly, I am convinced he would have been better able to have said something more to the point.

The first of these or the Apoidea comprise the bees, among which, especially among the social bees, are to be found probably the highest or most specialized type in the order; hence my rea on for beginning the classification of the Hymenoptera with these in insects. Our own bees, and indeed the bees of most countries, except those of the European fauna, are but little studied and very imperfectly known.

These experiments, as originally planed, had for their object the determination of the best time to cut alfalfa in order to secure the most profitable annual yield, its chemical composition, digestibility and the results of feeding trials being considered. A comparison of the yield and feeding value of the first, second and third crops was also made a part of the investigation, and as with the different cuttings, the composition and digestibility formed a part of the work. The genus Plenoculus Fox was erected in Psyche, Vol. VI, 1893, p. 554, with one species P. davisi. Since that time, however, four additional species have been described, three by Fox and one by myself. I have now the pleasure of presenting descriptions of four new species and giving a table for distinguishing all of the species, The genus is unknown outside of boreal North America.

The three families, Thynnidre, Myrmosidre and Mutillidre have never been properly defined, or characterized, and their genera, at present, on account of the diversity between the sexes, and the diffi-culties attending their proper correlation, are in utter confusion, and often wrongly placed. This confusion is also due, to a certain extent, to a lack of sufficient study, and the careless and insufficient characterization of some of the species and genera by the original describers, so that until lately it has been impossible to bring them into anything like order.

Die Kirby'sche Art ist von den Autoren, Smith folgend, stets fur O. fulviventris Panz. gehalten worden. Diese Art wurde aber in England nie gefangen, kann also den englischen Forschern nicht vorgelegen haben. Kirby, dem die Beschreibung Panzer's sicher bekannt gewesen ist - er fuhrt seinen Namen oft an -, vergleicht seine O. leaiana nicht einmal mit O. fulviventris Pz., was er sicher gethan hatte, wenn ihm beide identisch erschienen waren. Durch die Freundlichkeit Mr. Morice erhielt ich von der Osmia fulviventris K., Sm., Saund. (nec Panz.) ein Parchen, welches ganz mit O. solskyi Mor. ubereinstimmt. -Dieser Name ist also zu …
