Some months ago a sample of water from the tail race of a gold and silver mill was sent to the Station for examination with the statement that the water was supposed to have been the cause of the death of a number of head of cattle. A toxical analysis of the water was made, and thinking that the circumstance of the killing of the stock and the results of the analysis may interest farmers and stockmen generally, we herewith make a public report.

By most systematists this family is still classified with the Scoliidae, although separated as a distinct family by the Swedish entomologist, C. G. Thomson, as early as 1874. I agree with Thomson, and believe these wasps form a distinct family, easily recognize d by the characters made use of in my table of families.

Wangenanhang mit schwacher Beule. Clypeus zerstreut und ziemlich groh, seitlich dichter punktiert, in der Mitte mit erhabenem, glanzendem Langskiele, der Vorderrand auf seiuer ganzen Lange schwach ausgerandet und ein wenig crenuliert. Stirn, Scheitel und Wangen dichter und gleichmassiger punktiert.

The Utah Experiment Station has conducted a large number of feeding experiments with animals, the most extensive work in this direction being with hogs. Since the station was organized, over one hundred tests of various rations have been made and over three hundred hog;s have been fed. The results of these feeding tests are scattered through many hundred pages of reading matter in the station publications. As the continuation of these experiments fell upon the writer, it was decided to investigate thoroughly the work already done at the station and to tabulate the results for study. A summary of the …

A fraud which threatens to work great injury to the dairy interests of Utah, has made its appearance. It is a churning process by which the yield of butter can be abnormally increased by incorporating a large quantity of water and casein. A report has reached the Experiment Station to the effect that the promoters of this churning process are successfully enlisting the interest of Utah farmers and are selling county rights at fabulous prices.

The wasps belonging to this family, on account of the emarginate eyes in the females, and the abdomen being usually marked with yellow or white, closely resemble those in the families Mysinidae and Scoliidae, but may be easily distinguished by the great difference in the legs, the middle coxae being approximate, the outer face of the tibiae being smooth, unarmed, without tubercles or spines, while the tarsi are without strong spines or bristles, and unfitted for digging.
