Very few stockmen possess a knowledge of the value of beet pulp and beet molasses as animal food. Very little is known of the food value of molasses, but much information has accumulated, from time to time, concerning the value of pulp as stock food. The most authentic data at hand concerning the food value of pulp come from our experiment stations. To emphasize the value of pulp with the view to encourage small farmers to use it and thereby strengthen the live stock industry of the State, the results obtained by some of our experiment stations are given in …

Within recent years much has been done toward determining the agricultural significance of certain physical properties of the soil. The grade of fineness is the most important of these physical properties, in that it determines, to a large extent, other properties. The· mechanical analysis of soils has thus come to be considered of primary importance in soil investigations. Any improvements in the methods or apparatus for mechanical analysis will, therefore, doubtless be welcomed by agricultural investigators. For several years past I have been classifying, arranging and determining the Japanese Hymenoptera in the National Museum, presented by several valued correspondents, among whom special mention should be made of Dr. Mitsukuri, of Tokyo, Mr. Y. Nawa, of Gifu, Dr. Matsumura, of Sapporo, and Mr. A. Koebele, now government entomologist of the Hawaiian Islands, whose contributions are of especial value and contain many new species, particularly among the parasitic families. The new species in the superfamilies Sphecoidea, Vespoidea, Proctotrypoidea, Cynipoidea and Chalcidoidea are treated here. Those in the Ichneumonoidea and other superfamilies will be described in another paper.
