The practice of slaughtering hogs on the farm is being followed rather extensively by the farmers of this state. It is an economic practice and should be more generally followed because by this practice a supply of meat is available throughout the year. In all ages meat has been the principal article of diet of the ruling races. It is a natural and necessary part of man's diet. The races of people who have not included meat in their diet are today numbered among the weaker and more backward nations.

This report is merely an attempt to set forth the findings of the investigation without making claim to their being conclusive except for the families included in the study. While the study was carried into a relatively large portion of the state, the records are too few in number for any claim to be made that they represent community food conditions. It is believed, however, that the records which form the basis of this report are representative of the food situation in the homes from which they come.

Bulletin No. 208 - An Economic Study Of The Apple Industry Of Utah, 1926 - 1927, W. Preston Thomas, P. V. Cardon
UAES Bulletins
Utah's commercial apple industry had its beginning when apple production was rapidly expanding in the west and throughout the United states. The increase in price of apples from 1896 to 1910 stimulated commercial apple production in this state which, up to 1905, produced apples principally for local consumption, the family orchard supplying the local trade and home use. According to the data secured from the survey herein reported, the major part of the commercial apple trees standing in 1926, in Utah, were planted during the period from 1906 to 1915. In 1910, 60 per cent of the total trees in …

Bulletin No. 207 - The Physical Cure Character Of Milk And Its Relationship To The Digestability And Food Value Of Milk For Infants, R. L. Hill
UAES Bulletins
In the feeding of infants,' cows' milk is the best and most common substitute for human milk. In the feeding of delicate infants, however, considerable difficulty is often experienced from its use. The ideal substitute for mothers' milk has not been found, and most of the clinical effort has been directed towards the modification of cows' milk for infants.
Comparatively little research has been done on the difference in the digestibility and food value of milks from different cows for the infant. It is a well-known fact that the curd of cows' milk forms in a tough mass which varies …

The Devonian Of The Bear River Range, Utah, I. Lavell Cooley
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The geological column in northern Utah has had very little detailed study. Those who have made reports on this section have done so only in a very general way, making no detailed sections of any part of the column, excepting that of the Cambrian made by Walcott.1 Other work has been done by Mansfield2 in southeastern Idaho and a general section of the Devonian made in Green Canyon, Bear River Range, Utah by Kindle.3
Due to the lack of any detailed work of this nature being done in the Bear River Range, suggested the matter of making …

Circular No. 70 - The Agricultural Outlook For Utah, P. V. Cardon, W. P. Thomas
UAES Circulars
In preparing the following statement of Utah's relation to the national agricultural outlook for 1928, the writers have been guided by three fundamental considerations : (a) Utah is a livestock state; (b) feed production is the basis of Utah agriculture; and (c) definite physical, geographic, and economic limitations govern Utah's production of crops other than feed crops.

Circular No. 66 - Physical Curd Character Of Milk And Its Probably Relation To Infant Nutrition, R. L. Hill
Circular No. 66 - Physical Curd Character Of Milk And Its Probably Relation To Infant Nutrition, R. L. Hill
UAES Circulars
A problem which must be met by many mothers is that of obtaining for their infants an adequate substitute for breast milk. The weaning period is a very critical time in the life of every infant. Its ability to properly digest and assimilate the food supplied will largely determine its state of health, provided it is kept free from infection.
Milk formulas for the feeding of infants are often made up to conform to certain fat requirements. Some infants apparently have difficulty in properly assimilating a milk with a high fat content. This may be due to a low fat …
