Indian corn is one of the most important crops raised by American farmers. Anything that affects the corn crop of the American farmers. Anything that affects the corn crop of the United States has an influence on the prosperity of the entire country. From an economic point of view therefore, it is important to know as much about the production of this crop as possible. The corn plant also offers an excellent field for scientific investigation independent of any economic bearing.

Alaska's Daughter, Elizabeth Bernhardt Pinson
Alaska's Daughter, Elizabeth Bernhardt Pinson
All USU Press Publications
Elizabeth B. Pinson shares with us her memories of Alaska's emergence into a new and modern era, bearing witness to history in the early twentieth century as she recalls it. She draws us into her world as a young girl of mixed ethnicity, with a mother whose Eskimo family had resided on the Seward Peninsula for generations and a father of German heritage. Growing up in and near the tiny village of Teller on the Bering Strait, Elizabeth at the age of six, despite a harrowing, long midwinter sled ride to rescue her, lost both her legs to frostbite when …

I make a new name for our species without hairs on the metanotum, not knowing whether it will include the typical Ageuia or not. The type of Melanaporus Ashm. is a two-celled form of P. argenteus or a close ally.

The species described in this paper were for the most part collected by the Rev. Robert E. Brown, S. J., although a few are from the material gathered by the Rev. William A. Stanton, S. J. Under each species credit has been given to the collector. In the Philippine Journal of Science a Father Brown has given a list of the species of Hymenoptera found in the islands and has cited several names sent him by the late Dr. W. H. Ashmead which are manuscript names. In describing these species, of which no manuscript has been found, the name used …
